Title: RPC ERROR
Post by: arnie00 on November 17, 2005, 01:00:36 AM
Today I installed avast! 4.xHome/Pro on my laptop with no problem.  Then, an attempt was made to do the same installation on my dexsktop computer.  And, I received the following message: "Subsystem detected  a PRC Error".  I tried to go to the reference page in Avast, where I was directed to go, and my computer could not find the reference page.  I repeated this attempt several times with no success.  What do I do next.

The RPC error is usually associated with either having another AV installed or one that hasn't been fully removed on uninstall.

Have you ever had another AV installed if so which one?

When you say repeated attempts with no success, what error messages were you getting? This is a link to an FAQ page, can you access that? http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-other-questions.html#idt_1539
Are you able to browse other web pages ok?
What is your OS?

What do I do next.
After following David's advices, can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
