Title: Avast in Windows 10
Post by: REDACTED on August 08, 2015, 04:39:12 PM
I am a huge fan of avast! antivirus, but recently I am facing a huge problem with it.

I have updated my system to Windows 10. Now when I installed avast! antivirus on it, Windows crashes. When I rebooted the system it gave me message the start menu & cortana has crashed. I tried rebooting the system several times but the same issue remained. Also the Windows defender was shut off. Now when I uninstalled the avast! antivirus & rebooted the system, everything worked fine.

Can anyone let me know solution for this problem as i want to keep my system safe & secure with avast! antivirus as I have been keeping it from last 9 years.

Single reboot tells nothing, after a reboot it works always as it should. If you uninstalled Avast, now try to put your computer into sleep mode and resume after a while and try to open Start to see whether it´s solved or not. Maybe it´s conflict with Avast, maybe it´s bug of win 10 itself..

If you have the "Start menu and Cortana"  bug, then restart in safe mode with networking, then reboot back to Windows. Fixes the bug for me, but it is definitely due to the presence of Avast. Hopefully the bug get ironed out of the issue in the next update.

Same problem here. In fact, sometimes explorer.exe just hangs, I kill it via Windows Task Manager and it relaunches automatically (or I relaunch it manually) but the problem keeps happening again and again. Sometimes I also get the "Start menu and Cortana" have stopped working message instead of just hanging.

I haven't tried this yet. Has anyone else tried it?

I'm not in a mood to uninstall my current av, reboot, install avast, reboot, discover that I still have thd issue, reboot into safe mood with networking, reboot, discover that the issue is still there, uninstall avast, reboot, install the alternative av and reboot again.

Too much of a hassle to try it without at least avast having released a new version.

After installing Win10, Avast's Firewall would not start.  I did a Repair function in the Control Panel's > Programs and Features > Avast.

Now it works fine.

Good luck.

Better to make an image prior to removing your current AV then installing Avast, if you're not happy with the Avast changes then it's as simple as restoring that image.

This bug happens with the default (Defender) installed. It's a Windows problem not an Avast problem.
Booting into safemode with networking and then rebooting solves it.
