Since upgrading to Win 10 AVAST (free) is now popping up a message saying it has blocked something (different), for almost each website I visit using Firefox!
These are regular websites such as Amazon, which I don't believe are harmful.
But the point is I have visited the same sites before the upgrade and AVAST didn't complain, so why is it doing so now?
Any clues please?
Thanks
Nigel

Pondus
Thanks, yes it seems to be only Firefox, though I have converted to Edge yet so that only runs when I click a weblink.

Do you get the same problem in IE and Chrome ?

Essexboy,
OK as far as I have found it's only with Firefox.
Anyway having upgraded to Win 10 I don't think I have IE anymore?! I don't use Chrome.
So just to check with that situation should I proceed with your instructions to 'fix' and 'clean'?
Thanks

Essexboy,
Just waiting for your confirmation that, despite not using IE and Chrome, I should go thru' your last instructions?
Nigel
-
Yes continue, IE is available in windows 10 as that is what I am using
-
Thanks, here are those two log files.

Are you still getting the alerts ?
To run IE
Just go to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer
Right click iexplore and select pin to taskbar
-
Thanks
Not for the sites I have tried so far.
So maybe that has fixed it.
Thanks v-much for your help.
Nigel
P.S. are you at or near Loughborough?
-
Nope, darkest Cornwall .. Go much further west and you will have to start swimming :)
Let me know when you are happy and I will tidy up
-
Hmm thanks for that.
I seem no longer to have any AV alerts.
But a number of odd things are now happening (not suggesting they are related).
Such as I seem to have lost all file associations. So when I select an http link it asks me how to open it, and other files.
I also have a background process which used to ask once for permision to run and now it keeps on asking.
I have tried to download 'Microsoft Safety Scanner which involves Java, but I can't download that either!
I have had other problems before this and since upgarding to Win10
I wish there was a 'system scan' which might check/fix problems (apart from AV, Spyware etc)

Ahh windows 10 resets the default associations to the new apps or decides to give you the choice
They can be set in settings > system > default apps
-
Mmm yes, but I installed 10 the day before yesterday.
It's only since yesterday that I have the problems I mentioned.
But I have other problems that came with 10 and also some I have previously. So I guess I lump them all together and hope to sort them out sometime.

I've tried to associate the group of files with the app, but they neither associate by the Windows prompt, nor thru' the pop-up with the program I wanted to associate.

You could get windows 10 to refresh all windows files and settings to as they were when you installed it
-
Do you know how I could do that?
I have no idea.

Go to settings > update and security > recovery
Select get started then select keep my files
You will need to re-install programmes but your windows will be as new
