Not best pleased about the change to my update program settings yet again. Changed to Auto Program Update not my normal setting of Ask when an update is available. This has been my preferred setting (and the default for many years) for over 11 years of using avast.
Doesn't seem top have anything related to the system lockup issues in winXP reported in many topics since 10.3.2223 or the chkdsk issue in some OS versions from the same version.
Given what is included in this beta I could or may have given it a miss - as none of it appears to effect my systems - if only my settings hadn't been bl00dy changed to Auto Program Update yet again
-
Thanks for the update! :)
Unfortunately chkdsk issue does not seem to be resolved. Still got an error.
@DavidR
I suppose it is because you are in the beta stream, as beta release always been automatically updated to the latest since R3 beta.

Beta stream or not, the settings are being overridden - if this is to be the case for betas - I will abandon the beta stream and do a clean install on the next regular release.
-
No new SafeZone :'( :'( :'(
@David I had it once with an old Beta, that the update settings were changed from Ask when an update available to Automatic update, but not anymore.

-
Hi DavidR,
that's strange because we changed the Settings just once. For sure please change your Settings to Manual.
I hope you understand that for beta testing we need as many users as possible on the latest version, otherwise it's really not beta testing ;-)

This is the second or third time this has happened and after each time I change the settings back only for it to be ignored.

I would rather the settings remained at what I set them to which is effectively Ask - that way I'm aware of it and can do the program update at a time which is convenient to me and that would include beta builds
In over 11 years of using avast I have participated in all of them bar one, so I don't need to be pushed, just informed.
-
Since non of the fixes ever effected me, I don't really see a need for using the Beta unless
there's something new or some added security in this beta ???
-
I hope there will be much better security in Avast 2016 :)
And not more bloatwares........
-
Testing it asap...
PS: No auto-update here.
-
This afternoon avast reminded me there is a new version on standby to be installed. Avast is set to "remind me" and that is what it did.
Made my update to beta version .2227 and everything is workng like it did before. No snags!

Updated on Win10... Firewall does not go live! :'( with .2225 never had the problem!

Updated on Win10... Firewall does not go live! :'( with .2225 never had the problem!
First thing to try is a simple REBOOT of your system.
If that doesn't work, do a Repair of Avast.
Program and Features> Select Avast> Select Repair.
When finished, reboot the system.

Tnx! ... ;D already did that: reboot did not work, while repair worked (even without reboot ??? )!

Glad your problem is fixed. :)

You could just check if the fixes in the Beta doesn't cause you new issues ::)

Issue with Home Network Security scan on Win10 Home x64.
Smart Scan finds:
Resolve All Results =>
Rescan after that ( because everything looks good right?) =>
(http://i1351.photobucket.com/albums/p785/dbreeze2/Avast%20Info/Rescan%20after%20resolve%202015-08-28_192431_zpsv9oswtsa.png)
Here's the weird part; a separate, stand alone (not part of the Smart Scan) Home Network Scan produces this =>
(http://i1351.photobucket.com/albums/p785/dbreeze2/Avast%20Info/Home%20Network%20Security%20scan%20results%202015-08-28_195326_zpsl4bdjqce.png)
Couple of points:
1) Why does the Smart Scan produce different results on the Network Scan than just running it by itself?
2) Smart Scan Network Scan shows only two devices connected to the network.
3) Stand alone Network Scan shows 5 devices connected.
4) Why does the "resolve / fix" not update or correct anything in the Smart Scan results?
5) 2 vs 5 ?
Anyone else see this kind of problems? This is after a repair of the installation and several reboots but thanks for suggesting anyway.

Repair always does it's job. I had this situation for a numerous time before ;)

This problem existed in the last 10.3.2225 and possibly 2223 also and was reported.
My findings previously matched yours Resolve All was fine, but run a Smart Scan again and it reported issues. I didn't run an independent Home Network scan, but doing so this time (without having used the Resolve all) returns everything OK.
Looks like it hasn't been fixed.

Hi Red!
I confirm. My W8.1 laptop is (as avast! updated automatically from free '10.3.2225 BETA' to free '10.3.2227' BETA), nearly unuseabl.
How can I avoid the automatic update?
@MartinZ
This unlucky update came too early and at the wrong moment (weekend and only a few Evangelists are online).

None of the fixes on the changelog seem to be related with the problems that I have with avast and Windows 10. And I seem to not be the only one:

Also, is it possible to install this Beta and than, once a stable version is released stay on that stable version?

If you do a clean install once the stable version comes out. :)
If you simply update from the beta to the full version, you'll receive the next beta once it's released. :)

Greetz, Red.
It's not under development, the last version of Private Firewall was 7.0.30.3 and was released well over a year ago...not something that should be used on Win10 imo or probably any other system unless there is active development.

There is nothing wrong with the Windows firewall if you want a free solution, other than that you can use Google to search the net for firewall reviews or look on the Wilders security forum.

It doesn't really matter what tag they've decided to attach, there hasn't been an update to PrivateFirewall in over a year so claiming Win10 compatibility is false and misleading.
Your choice to use if you want but you have been warned.

I am just install it on Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10532.It just doing great job! It is not false.I went to Wilders security forum and conformed that.

As I said it's your choice, I certainly wouldn't be using software that no longer seems supported.

Especially when the Windows 10 firewall does an excellent job and is totally trouble free. :)

Via Avast Ticket: #MCN-504-92599 we found out that my problems with internet and downloads in Vista was a collision between Avast 10.3.2225 and HitmanPro Alert.
As far a I know this problem was not analized.
So we now do not know if this is a bug in Avast or HitmanPro Alert of both.
I got only this answer:
####
We do not recommend you to use more than one security application on one computer. This can cause a lot of conflict.
You should uninstall HitmanPro.
Anyway, new program version has been released this week Avast 2015 R4 beta 1 (build number 2015.10.4.2227).

So they do not even know the difference between HitmanPro and HitmanPro Alert
In this answer it is suggested to test the problem in my Vista system with 10.4.2227.
MartinZ,
In your list of changes I do not see anything that has to do with my problem in Vista.
Can you approve that in Avast 10.4.2227 something is changed in relation to my severe problem.
-
Hitman pro uses very low level drivers and may well conflict with Avasts low level drivers. There is no difference between HitmanPro and HitmanPro Alert
-
@ Be Secure Private Firewall is no longer supported for Win10. There are no plans at this time for further development of PFW.
This is information I received via email from Privacyware about a month before Win10 was released.

I reported a long time ago that HitmanPro actually kills Avast. Apparently it's still happening. :'(
-
Hitman pro also kills systems if used injudiciously
-
Solved my issues with Office 2013 (more specific Word/Excell), no issue up till now with 'Automatic Update'.

The update function still only gave me an update to 2228 which never completed and resulted in a server error.
I downloaded the 2229 installation file and installed it manually without a problem. :)

Lucky you Bob, I wasn't meant to get 2229 on this XP system, but I got both 2228 and 2229 and both installed without issue. Then I get notified of another update (or downgrade) to 2228, but trying to do so results in the usual your have the latest version.
