Title: Wallpaper not visible
Post by: OniLink on November 25, 2005, 10:11:40 AM
Hi,
After installing avast! 4.6 Home Edition and then resetting the computer, I can no longer see my wallpaper. I have tried to set the wallpaper again (and various others), but it doesnt seem to work... all I see is the background colour chosen in the display settings. Stranger yet, the wallpaper can be seen in the desktop properties on the preview monitor.

Could this have something to do with avast!?

Thanks,
~Oni.

It does not seem to be related to avast.
Something strange is happening with your monitor drivers or the picture files...
Were you infected before? Did you use another antivirus before avast?
Are you working with XP? Are you the administrator or a common user in this computer?

It is my home computer and it is brand new. I am using Windows XP Professional x64 and have a Radeon 9600XT. I have installed the latest drivers.

Its weird, because when I go to shutdown, it shows the wallpaper for just a second.

remove all wallpapers and disable view web HTML on desktop.
reboot computer.
and it will work, you will be able to change you desktop background as you want.

It could be so that if it was html as background and it was infected, Avast removed it, but you have left some settings in the desktop configuration left.

Genius. It was actually a wallpaper I made myself and I originally set it by right-clicking and choosing "Set a Desktop Background".

Anyway I did what you said and it now works. Thanks.

So far, I am extremely impressed by avast!

Thanks again,
~Oni.

OniLink, are you clean? Did you run a full avast scanning? Do you have Spybot, Ad-aware, Ewido, A-squared? Can you run scannings of them?

It could be so that if it was html as background and it was infected, Avast removed it

It seems that no matter what wallpaper I use, it does the same thing.

I have done a scan through avas! and MS AntiSpyware (after this problem occured).
