Title: Avast SafeZone Browser - How do you like it?
Post by: ondrejz on October 06, 2015, 06:58:21 PM
Avast SafeZone browser is a substitution of the old SafeZone component and is now a fully-fledged web browser. However it offers much more things and improvements. We have added many built-in security layers to make it the most secured browser.

The SafeZone Browser is now part of Avast 2016 Beta and supports the following features:

We work really hard on adding some other cool features for the 2016 release that will be available in following beta releases...

Now you have a chance to try it and discover the features! You can find the SafeZone Browser in Avast UI - Tools. We would also really appreciate your feedback and experience you have with the SafeZone Browser Beta. Please fill in the Survey, it should only take 5 minutes.

Why are there 8 SafeZoneBrowser processes if I'm not even using it? It's closed! I know I have 32GB but still, the behavior is unwanted.

Hi RejZor, thanks for the report,

this is unwanted behavior for us too :).. It usually happens when the browser lose connection with Avast. With this beta1 it happens when you try to open Shielded Window.. Restart of the computer should fix it..

If this is not the case, can you confirm that the AvastUI and Avast Service is running? Thanks.

You can use it for any operation that you want to protect from possible keyloggers, screenshoters or any similar malware.

Use cases can be:
* switch to pay mode before you write down your personal data (login, passwords, address, credit card number...)
* switch to pay mode before you do some shopping (it is important to switch before you login into a shop because cookies are not currently transfered from normal mode to pay mode)
* switch to pay mode before you login into an online banking

Why This is not automatic for shopping sites? Is it for all version?

Seems to work fine on my system (Win10 x64) which is a huge improvement from the previous version of SafeZone (which never loaded any web pages at all).  Keep up the good work!

It would be great to add a virtual keyboard in Avast SafeZone Browser for banking and shopping and social networking sites(Facebook,Twitter).

Safe zone now not working at all for me...  Which is weird as it was when I first installed the Beta

Now it totally locks up the UI and I can do nothing with Avast if I start from the GUI or right click the icon .....

Well that was a right palaver...

Went for a repair and it froze when reinstalling the firewall
So I had to reboot then when I tried to do a clean install Avast setup was running all the time and I could do nothing.  Not even Avast clear would run

So I had to disable self protection, shut all services down and then use Revo to remove it
Then I could run Avastclear

Went for a full re-install and now not only does safezone work but I have secure DNS back :)

However, my account is down and I cannot log in with Avast

I found in the latest build of Windows 10, you need to go to Safe Mode > Programs and Features > Uninstall Avast.
Reboot
Go back to Safe Mode > Run Avastclear > Reboot back to regular mode.
Now you can cleanly install Avast without any problems.
Any other way, either Avast would not uninstall and Windows 10 would give you all kinds of headaches.
This is not the case in the  Windows 10 published release.

Hi,

this is by design. There is another instance of the browser prepared for the Pay Mode. All the sub-processes are suspended and take almost no resources. The Pay mode is launching faster thanks to this.

Avast SafeZone Browser not able to protect form Phishing sites.

Web Reputation (phishing, malware, ratings..) is not working in the browser - it's a known bug. We hope we will add this protection in RC release.

Stay tuned ;)

The question is why to add virtual keyboard? There is protection against keyloggers in the Pay mode already. So you can use normal keyboard without any fear.

If you have NG installed and ready, the option should be in the browser menu.

I can't beleive how great this browser is! Its literally better than Chrome, AND way ahead of Edge already! Well done guys! Now my default Browser! :)
Took a while to work out the drag and drop system with the bookmark bar from importing, but I think at this rate, you guys are onto a real winner with this browser.
One thing that ALWAYS happens to me is with Facebook - when im commenting on a post, it always seems to crash.

Can I suggest once it gets out of beta, offering it to people general? I think the only thing missing is slightly better ad blocking support.

Hi anarkii,

thanks for your positive feedback! We already work on the crashes - they used to appear on Facebook or Google Doc. sites. SafeZone browser will be part of our premium products - IS, Pro and Premier.

Can you give us bit more info of what you mean by slightly better ad blocking support. SafeZone Ad Blocker works with EasyList so if you see that some Ads are not blocked you can either import/use some additional filter (EasyList specific for some country or region) or block the Ad manually.

I hope you will stay with SafeZone, once again..thanks for you feedback.

I realized that once I fooled around with it more. The crashes are random with Facebook, I wish I knew what was causing it (maybe a 3rd party addon from another browser i dont know) but it seems to be common with that site.

Does the Safezone browser get updated with each Beta release or do we need to update it seperately?

Well, there's no New Shielded Tab in my main menu just New Tab, New Window and New Pay Mode Tab. Noticing someone else's post I took a look at the Task Manager, I've 28 instances of Safe Zone listed there. All rather frustrating and bewildering. Windows 8.1

I like the new Safezone and the way 'pay mode' is built in to the Browser.
Unfortunately my Premier version is installed on an old Dell OS and so NG doesn't come into play and thus no "Shielded Mode"
No worries, still like the new Safezone Browser.  :)

Performing a full shutdown rather than the usual hybrid shutdown (Win 8.1) seems to have solved the missing New Shield Window option.
One big improvement, I can now use my password manager, Password Safe, without it freezing the browser which it did in the previous version all too frequently.

Not much, Passwords not working even after exporting from lastpass to the service. Kinda loppy, Need to find a better alternative browser to suite the need well. Sticking with Firefox, Vivaldi and Torch.
Good that it's comes with the product any way. May come in hand some time when the other browsers fail to do the job, I prefer Firefox for all the purpose.

Hi, this is not the right way how to do it. It will install the browser but there will be almost no interaction with Avast. Consequence of this could be that Pay mode will not work.

I recommend to perform repair installation.

Why Flash Player hasn't in SafeZone Browser?

It is not part of the browser and it will not be changed in near future. Adobe Flash player is 3rd party product and you can install it manually if you want. Please be aware of possible security features which may come with using the Flash player plugin.

im getting the exact same thing happening with Lloyds Bank in the UK. after 3 attempts to log in i have now been locked out of my account which im not happy about.
this has only happened since the new safe zone was installed.
the bank says there is nothing they can do but send a new log in password by post which will take upto 5 days so i may not get it until after christmas.
not happy.

I had the same problem with logging in to Lloyds Bank site - however was able to logon OK to the TSB site which appears to still use same security system. When using previous version of Safezone browser the only difference I remember between the two sites was that the Lloyds site issued message about wanting Adobe Flash Player addon - although it worked fine without it. As I was not seeing this message on new SZ I tried turning off Adblocker in SZ Paymode settings - and was then able to logon to Lloyds site OK
