Title: Online content unavailable
Post by: REDACTED on October 08, 2015, 01:55:16 PM
Getting pop-ups from Avast! Free -

"The online content is unavailable
Please, check your internet connection and try again."

Just started happening today. The rest of the internet appears to be working OK, so it appears to be specific to your site.

Same here.  Brings up the Account Tab.  I'm pretty clearly online since I'm posting this.  :V

Since today, 13h approx (Western Europe) I get Avast (free) poppin up on my Windows PC (didn't check Android devices yet) with "The online content is unavailable". Also loging in with my account-credentials doesn't work. What's going on?

Same here and this is a serious issue: Avast drops me down to desktop constantly from Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain. It was so frustrating so I uninstalled whole program.

Edit: If it cant connect to servers it shouldn't interrupt my gaming.

Relax the Avast Account website is down is related to my.avast.com

That's pretty dumb, if that's the case.  So far I'm spending my morning telling people to ignore it.  All this less than a day after a zero-day bug was announced (and supposedly patched):

http://news.softpedia.com/news/zero-day-exploit-found-in-avast-antivirus-493958.shtml

Not to mention the spying allegations:

http://neurogadget.com/2015/10/07/was-avast-antivirus-spying-on-users/17040

Between this & that issue of Avast eating hard drives earlier this year, I'm getting pretty annoyed with the software.  The forum is also horribly slow right now, this is my third time trying to post this message  :P

Same problem. I actually came onto the forum to start a thread about it myself, glad it's not just me it's happening to. Really annoying, I was playing Warframe and it kept popping up constantly, got me killed twice...
Title: Re: Online content unavailable
Post by: REDACTED on October 08, 2015, 02:14:20 PM
I'll give it a few hours before uninstalling, there are other free antivirus that work just as well

Post by: REDACTED on October 08, 2015, 02:15:15 PM
This is happening to me as well...glad to see I'm not the only one! My internet seems to be fine. I'm on Avast Premier, also.

Edit:
Whatever was going on seems to have fixed itself...I think? I'll keep an eye out. Additionally the forums are running rather slowly...guess more people are having the issue than I thought.
Title: Re: Online content unavailable
Post by: REDACTED on October 08, 2015, 02:16:34 PM
I don't really get the problem, it happened here aswell.

first, I'm using the german version of avast, it says "Lädt", then it gives the error message -  in english (why in english, i've set it to german, and if I want to run it in english, I would set it to english).

then, if it wants to download something, it should at least tell what it wants to download and give the opportunity to delay it. I'm sometimes on my mobile connection, and they charge per megabyte.

and finally, it should be trivial to detect the online-status. is the connection down or is the server down.

so please tell me, how those problems can be fixed, especially the weird switches between languages is annoying, aswell as that pop up, informing about a non-existing problem, and even showing a wrong picture (how do I plug in a wireless lan cable?).

I'm seeing it on the free, cloud, and server-based versions.  It's getting really annoying because it keeps popping up.  I'm going to have to record an IT Crowd-style voicemail on my phone to tell people to ignore it...hopefully Avast's content servers haven't been hijacked with the zero-day exploit...
Title: Re: Online content unavailable
Post by: Secondmineboy on October 08, 2015, 02:37:35 PM
Just to inform: Avasts servers are hopefully really secure. AND the Zero-Day Exploit was already patched recently.

The Avast account website is currently down, which may cause these popups since its trying to connect and update my.avast.com,
which is impossible so it may cause that popup message.

Same here!

Is there a way to fix this other than uninstalling and switching to a less retarded anti-virus program and never looking back?

Poor poor design to have it pop up when it can't reach home. Nevermind about fixing the server, it should just fail gracefully.

Suggestion for people to maybe try: Try turning off streaming updates? Maybe that would stop it? I haven't tried that and I'm not going to try it, but maybe someone else will and let us know if it did anything...

my.avast.com is currently down which may cause these popups since Avast tries to update your Avast account there, if you have one :)
Title: Re: Online content unavailable
Post by: REDACTED on October 08, 2015, 02:45:14 PM
a similar problem

as far as I could understand, I think the point is that the Awas trying to make some kind of update account, but a site with user accounts unavailable. So far, that I took the advice and turned avast mode without notification / game mode that pops up a Avast-window every time (and it is very annoying). But globally can only wait until the repaired portion of the site.

try to temporarily disable without notice mode / Gaming Mode - In this mode, the notification Avast are not shown. In any case, I have since there seems to be not surfaced after the switched mode without notice

Wauv... just wauv. Shoddy programming Avast.

Getting spammed by these popups because your website is down, it's one the dumbest things I have ever heard.
Get it under control now and fix your programs now.

I can confirm that going to settings, general and ticking the silent gaming mode does seem to stop it.  I don't think you would want to keep it in this mode all the time, but until they get it fixed it should alleviate the annoyance factor.

Whilst my VPS version was up to date 151008-0 but the https://www.avast.com/virus-update-history page hasn't been updated it is still showing 151007-2 as the latest.

However, I did a manual update to see if I could replicate the problem, I was able to get a connection and it stated I had the latest VPS version.

Title: Re: Online content unavailable

I don't know if there is a problem in the display of the data on my.avast.com. Whilst I'm currently running the avast 2016 beta version, it is reporting my Virus Definitions as OK (check mark) the version is far from updated (151001-0). So it is incorrect in giving it a check mark as that would be out of date, when the main avast Update window shows the correct VPS 151008-0.

You could try an avast Repair and see if that resolves it - it has in the past resolved out of sync data on what is reported against what is actually there. This may or may not result in incorrect data reported to my.avast.com, such as it stating that SafeZone is on (when I uninstalled it).

I'm also getting "The online content is unavailable" when trying to connect to Account in the AvastUI, on 3 Windows 7 Pro SP1 laptops running AIS.  It does appear the the account is connected at some level because Overview in AvastUI gives the email address I used to sign up at my.avast.com and the points increment after a scan on any of my devices that are signed up.

I have this problem for several months now!

I have an active license of avast Internet Security and running Windows 8.1 Pro. I uninstalled avast using avastclear.exe in Safe Mode, then downloaded a new installer thru my online avast account. I then installed avast and successfully connected my device.

I then went to my avast client under Account tab and I still get this error:

I've downloaded the avast support tool. What is the content of the generated support file? And what is this story about avast spying on its customers?

I now regret getting a 2-year license for a shady product that I don't even know if it's fully working.

Same issue as POST NUMBER 3!

If Try to login from Avast 2016 App on Windows 7 it says "The Online Content is Unavaialable" "Please check your internet connection and try again"
With Reload button at the bottom. Keep clicking it and nothing happens.

Also this can occur during a game and kick you out of the game.
