Title: Unable to connect to Avast servers and contiuous pop-ups
Post by: REDACTED on October 08, 2015, 03:17:27 PM
Unfortunately, it seems that there are some back-end Avast server issues that are affecting us.

Our users are seeing Avast show the message that they need to plug in a wired cable and to check their connection to the internet (see the attachment). This is further worsened as we password protect the entire Avast interface so every few minutes they need to hit Cancel to continue working.

We know the connection to Internet is good, we are seeing this with people in over 15 different states throughout the entire USA using all kinds of different Internet providers. Further there are constant timeouts ("server.error" message) trying to login to the forum or the online Dashboard. Once logged in, making and saving changes to (for example adjusting the template to not require password) causes a message that a problem happened and we have the option to submit error details to support.

I could not see anything on the Twitter account to indicate problems, no other status notification that I can locate on the website that indicate you know of there is a problem.

Cloud is great until you have no control to fix and cannot do anything to help the problem... Programming the software to show such distracting messages when there is really no issue on the client side is "not good for business"

edit: I guess it took me to long to type this - others are reporting the issue as well. - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=177392.0

Hello,

On October 8th around 8am EST, Avast had some technical difficulties related to a VPS update, but they should now be resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks for your patience,
Michael P.

Thanks for the update Michael! I was monitoring the forum and Twitter and saw the announcements from a bit earlier.

As I said in another post, it would be great if you implement an "off site / independent" page that can be accessed to check services' status even without logging in (as you know the Dashboard and Forum login functionality was affected as well).

Please relay our big thanks to your team for the prompt fix. I am sure you guys hated this even more than we did.

Our users were prompted to login to or create an Avast account.
Just checking to see if anyone did.

The login issue should resolve itself when the clients resync to the portal (automatically).

Thanks,

We only saw this "login prompt" instead of the Avast interface on 2-3 machines and only once per each computer. It seems to have gone away now. Our users are no longer reporting issues and they are a vocal group. Since everyone on our team is located within the USA, we may be serviced by another server. Or maybe that we enabled silent mode and no one is looking at the Avast interface anymore as there are no pop-ups?
