Title: Connection timeout message
Post by: jaywerth on November 29, 2005, 04:46:47 PM
Getting the message "Connection timeout"
smss.exe->mtu.v21.level3.mailyahoo.com:25
  frequently.

Option is to click yes to "continue waiting" or click "no"

How do I eliminate this msg from occuring?

Thanks.

You can increase both your avast! timeout: Internet Mail provider > Customize > Advanced (tab)
and your email account timeout (generally, right click the email account, choose properties and the Advanced tab of settings).

Are you using Azureus by any chance?
Which email program do you use?
Are you sendind emails with large attachments?

Don't increase timeouts until you establish what smss.exe is and if it's a legitimate email process that you launched. Otherwise it could be malware trying to send emai without your knowledge. Try and identify the location of smss.exe as there is a windows process called this but what that would be doing trying to send email I don't know.

You can also take a look HERE (http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/smss.exe.html) for more information.
Hope it helps. :)
