That it needs to restart my Operating System each time I boot up my PC. This has been going on for a day or so - Can anyone tell me why this is so?! This problem is also affecting my son's machine too.
I am running WinXP Pro with SP2 installed and Avast! version 4.6 Home Edition build 4.6.739. My son's PC runs the same version and build of Avast! on a WinXP Home Edition Operating system, with all updates installed.

Operating system restart needed by avast message could be solved, in some systems, by deleting the file <avast>\setup\reboot.txt

Thanks DavidR. I have deleted the text file you mentioned and will post back success or failure when I next reboot.
BTW - I take it that this file is automatically recreated when PC and Avast next boot(s) up?

Thanks DavidR. I'm happy to report that deletion of <avast>\setup\reboot.txt on my son's PC and rebooting without Avast asking to reboot the O/S has been successful!
Much obliged for the help...

Glad to have been able to have helped, the reboot.txt is only created after a program update that requires a reboot and should really be deleted after that. So if required in the future it will be created.

DavidR is the man! I've just rebooted my own PC after it being closed down for a day or so and after me following his instructions - and no more message!! Avast! is now behaving properly once more - Yay!
Thanks again, DavidR.
