Title: AOS Plug In
Post by: midnight on November 08, 2015, 09:47:14 PM
I can't install it on my standard account.  At the bottom of my account page it shows it's not installed but when I click on install it doesn't.

How can I get it to install or can I not install on a standard account

You don't mention how you tried to install it ?
It is hard for anyone to make a suggestion if they haven't got details.

What is a standard account ?

It's a local, limited account.

I believe by default avast has restrictions on limited user accounts - though in the Troubleshooting section it only mentions Guest accounts - this has been like that for some time.

If you are trying to do this from the my.avast.com account I don't believe there is an option to install the AOS.

That really should be done from the Control Panel > Programs and Features > avast antivirus - Change > in the window that opens 'Modify' and check that the Browser Protection is enabled. If you can't do this from a local, limited account you may need to do it from a higher windows account one with admin privileges.

Hi -midnight,

Think you will get the same answer as on the automatic updates question.
Can you install the plug-in/add-on in firefox. Should have come on the toolbar at installing the program.
Be aware there are look-alikes around.
The google chrome one is here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/avast-online-security/gomekmidlodglbbmalcneegieacbdmki
When you have it in firefox, you should go there to plug-ins and enable it manually,
in a later firefox version Avast AOS add-on will come up with a signed version that firefox runs without ado!
New security precautions firefox browser demands set to make you allow it personally now.

Hi polonus,

The plug in only works on my local account administrator account.  I can't find it on my administrator account. My administrator account shows my email address so I won't show it.  Something is messed up somewhere.

I use firefox for my administrator account but it doesn't show (screenshot) at the top of the page.

Up until yesterday I had never heard of a local account administrator.  On this account I can access my pictures, documents, downloads, change different settings, etc., which I can't do on my administrator account.  Doesn't make sense to me.

I've never heard of work group mode and I didn't enable anything.

@essexboy,

I found it but I didn't go through any of the steps mentioned in your link.  I went to the start menu and typed in workgroup.
