Title: troubleshooting HTML:RedirME-inf [Trj] in OS X
Post by: REDACTED on November 09, 2015, 04:54:52 AM
I keep getting warnings from Avast that the Avast Filesystem shield has blocked an infection called HTML:RedirME-inf [Trj].

My impression from reading about it is that it's a Trojan horse that seems innocuous at first but can become damaging to the system as it spreads.

I've attached the specific error message, but it appears exclusively to be in Google Chrome's cache.

Process: /Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome

File: /Users/myname/Library/Caches/Google/Chrome/Default/Cache/data_4

Has anyone tangled with this infection before on a Mac? How do I get rid of it for good? It seems like Avast detects it, blocks it when I open a new window in Google Chrome, but I still keep getting these messages from Avast indicating the infection is still there.
