Title: auto renewal cancellation
Post by: REDACTED on December 08, 2015, 05:28:01 PM
I have an Avast Pro auto renewal coming up in mid January 2016 and want to cancel the renewal. How do I do that? I used to be able to cancel it in the software, but now I see no way to do that now.

How do we determine which billing service we are using?  Plus when I select it, it's asking for an order number.  I see the option for the last 5 digits of the CC but that was a year ago, and there is NO place on my account that remotely mentions billing.

Seriously, get your stuff together.  We should have a direct link from our account to billing.  Cut this difficult to adjust account crap

ALSO, there is no field to find my account via my email, and CC number.  So you are forcing me to go back and find the email on an old computer?

Forget asking about change in payment, I want to cancel my subscription. This is blatantly making it difficult to adjust account settings to make auto-payments continue.

oh, and YES this is in the correct forum, its MY avast account I am talking about.

It is the one mentioned in the confirmation email that you have gotten after purchasing a product.
If you have used a credit card or bank, it will also be on the payment overview you get from the credit card company/bank.

No, avast is not forcing you to do so. You are the one that is responsible for your administration, not avast.

It isn't difficult at all.

No it is not. This forum is about the https://my.avast.com website, not about canceling the auto-renewal/financial things.

How do we find out IF we are set up for auto renewal?     I have had avast for 3+ years, and have no idea what my order number was, or even what CC I used.  I might not even have that CC anymore.
I would think that all that info would be on the Subscription tab of the Avast Settings, but I don't see any helpful info there.
Mine is a 5 PC license, and it took me 5 trys, with different email addys to final get the one that I registered   with.
Yes, poor book-keeping on my part.  I'm coming up for renewal.  Not so sure I want to have auto renewal.

It might be the 3rd time, or even the 10th time, If we newbies, who aren't all that computer literate, and didn't keep the proper written records, no matter what page, or forms we have will not get us the info we seek.    My Question was a legitimate question, and ask help.  Did you rally read it?    Or "your on the wrong forum".
The easiest way to find out for us newbies, who don't have all the info we should have, is to call our CC company or bank and say "Do not honor an Avast request for Auto renewal".
Thank you,

Look up the order status and check.
It has nothing to do with being computer literate or not.
It is just as with e.g. a insurance.
If you want to know if something is covered or not, read insurance policy.

Since I got a new computer with Win10, late in July 2015, Avast Pro has started my byweekly scan, only, three times. It was easy to follow direction to stop the automatic renewal. The nuisance will come after that.  I did not see any direction which allowed a simple downgrade to Avast Free. I will see in a couple of weeks.

Uninstalling avast pro from control panel > programs and features > avast antivirus - Uninstall. When you choose this there should be an option to downgrade to the free version.

Is there a way to send just a simple email, or telephone the Avast company?    All the things I try doesn't seem to work,  or automatic reply is that I'm unknown, or wrong PW,  and all I want to do is know if I have auto renew turned on or off?  I have a paid, 5 computer license, since the end of 2013, and if I can't get the info I need, I am left with no alternative but to instruct my CC company to not accept an automatic charge from Avast against my CC.   I might not even have that CC anymore.  I like Avast software, but it isn't worth all the problems I have encountered here today.  I have spent far too much time trying to JTH.   I'm sure just one little 5 piece license isn't any big lost to Avast.  And the free verson on my 5 computers should work just fine.
If this message can't be forwarded to Avast,  and get this matter resolved, I have about 40 days until my time with Avast is up.
Thank You.
I will try to not darken your door further today.

Somehow, I knew, after spending just one day on this forum,  that would be your answer.
I don't know what my PW for Avast is, when I try all the ones I have used, it comes back unknown.   I don't have my order number any more as it would have been on an old retired machine,   I don't know what CC I used over 3 years ago.
Again, poor bookkeeping on my part.
I'm just one little ol' 5 computer license customer.   I'm sure I'm pretty small potatoes to Avast, and most certainly won't be missed.

I think I'm left with no way to get where I need to be with this, and will, probably have to insure my CC company refuses to honor any auto charges to my cards.

I already ticketed them myself, and have been waiting for a week.  THEY RENEWED MY SUBSCRIPTION.  Even after I emailed them, "attempted" to call the number listed, and went through every inch of the my.avast.com web portal to find a cancel subscription button.

There is no such button.  There is no connecting phone number.  There was no password for the id they sent me in the email, for the order web service.  There was no response to my tickets.

The money was STOLEN from me, and there's very little I can do about it, except wait for for the refund from either my bank or Avast.

Think I will add to this myself.

I have been using Avast now for over ten years and have recommended the product to hundreds. The software itself is great and I love using it.
At the moment I have Avast Premier , VPN and Cleanup so a good customer !

I have been billed by Nexway on the 7th Jan for another year of Avast Premier with AutoRenew off !!!   (illegal)
All my Avast products are set to off as ive just checked.

The procedure for doing this is not really clear and having to look back at a year old email is just making it difficult for paying customers.
The website is also poor for navigating around etc , especially for people that don't know how to do these things.

Ive had no email from Avast with my new invoice number and password or no new license file yet there quick to take my money nearly two weeks ago now.

"Submit a ticket all the admins are saying "

Five days ago I did this and still no answer. This is without a doubt the poorest response time ive ever seen for something so easy to rectify.
Im a technical support manager in a world leading I.T firm and if our level of support was this poor we would all be looking for another job.

Get it together Avast
Your software is let down by your lack of support, if any.

I have two days left on my old Premier and when that runs out if nothing has been done I will get my money back from Paypal and never use or recommend Avast again.
Sad as its a good product

Just to make it clear, most of us are just like you users of avast and are not working for avast in any way.
You can recognize someone from avast on this webboard by the "avast team" underneath their name.

If you had disabled the auto-renewal before it took place, it sure shouldn't have happened.
If I understand you correctly, you have submitted a ticket.
Please mention the ticket number here and I will try to get someone from avast to have a look at it.

Ticket number is 141303

Yes all Auto renewals are off and have been since September 2015 when I set them to off, so it shouldn't be billed.
I always renew manually as I have had this happened before and its really putting my off the product etc.

Thanks for looking into this Eddy.

Avast need to get their ticket support system up to speed because its terrible.

Hi,

the subscription that just renewed is registered under a different email address than the rest of your subscriptions.
I believe this was a typo, as all the others are registered for "grotty" while the one renewed is under "groty". I suspect that for this reason you neither knew that this subscription existed and thus didn't cancel the auto-renewal for it :)

I just cancelled it and issued the refund.

Cheers.

It is impossible to find a place to enter a ticket for an auto renewal cancellation on this site....I HATE THIS COMPANY...
Can't call no humans work here...
You are not authorized to renew this piece of garage you call grime fighter which has never  loaded on my system and is not now loaded on my system as it won't load.  even after 6 hours on the phone with your technical group...Then you refused to refund last time  now have ripped me off for  over $200.00 and I still have NO AVAST products on my computer and I DON"T want any.........BUYER BEWARE..  IT IS A RIP OFF COMPANY....

Instead of posting you should have done some reading.

1]
You don't need to submit a ticket if you want to cancel the auto-renewal.
See reply #1

2]
You did authorize avast for the auto-renewal when you bought a subscription.
avast did send you at least 2 mails telling that the auto-renewal was upcoming giving you enough time to cancel it.

3]
There haven't been a auto-renewal for GrimeFighter since it was replaced with avast CleanUp about 6 months ago.

4]
If avast refuse a refund they will have a very good reason for it and they will tell you.
e.g. you ask a refund way past the 30 days money back guarantee.

5]
It doesn't matter if you have avast installed or not.
You bought a subscription and as long as you don't cancel it, you will need to pay.
It is just as with magazines.
You subscribe to one and have to pay for it.
It doesn't matter if you read it or not.

Just because you don't know/understand things, doesn't mean avast is ripping off people.

I think Avast makes a BIG mistake with auto-renewal. I had installed free version and I was just about to purchase for the first time for 1 year, and after I read the page about auto-renewal and backed off. That is obscene, it shouldn't be automatic at all! It should be maximum as option in settings BUT NOT IN DEFAULT !  If I am buying for one year, it should expire and only AFTER I DECIDE than to purchase for another year (or not).
Bye, bye Avast...

When you first purchase, you can switch this off - but some find it hard to find. Don't go through with the purchase if you haven't been able to switch it off (if it is still on by default).

EDIT: attached images.

As you can see from my image1 there is no check box (to check or uncheck), you have to click the link to get to the underlying check box for auto-renewal.

The only difference for mine being I tested it on avast Pro (not Premier), mine was in English and crucially the check box was already checked (not unchecked by default), image2.

I checked with the other products and with all the box was not checked.
Looks like the language makes the difference.

Another thing avast should "streamline" so it is the same for everyone. ::)
