Using Mozilla Thunderbird (current version is 38.5.1 and my OS is XP Pro).
Often, upon clicking "Send," I get an error message: "Problem including file file:///C:/docume~1/(my name)/locals~1/temp/nsemail.html. Would you like to continue sending the message without this file?" If I click on "OK," sometimes it goes through OK and sometimes it goes through with the message text deleted.
Remedy suggestions appreciated.

- Which Avast..? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
- Which version..?
- XP... (32/64 Bit..? - which SP/Build..?)
- Other security related software installed..?

Avast free version; XP Pro SP3 (not sure whether 32 or 64); also have Superantispyware, and Windows firewall is ON.

Empty that temp folder and see if things have changed.
Make sure all files are removed.

If you have XP Pro SP3 then it is a 32bit version - I believe the only XP Pro version that had a 64bit version was SP2 - the 64bit version only went to SP2, no SP3 release. By default then, if you have XP Pro SP3 it is 32 bit.

Stop believing David. ;D
There is indeed no SP3 for the 64 bit version of XP.

I never had the XP Pro 64bit version, so I was relying on memory and you know how memory can play tricks on us ;D

Eddy, thanks for your suggestion. I followed it and, unfortunately, it hasn't eliminated the problem.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)..!!
-> https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle
Then:
1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.
