Title: Does Avast! installer comes with a Google toolbar or something?
Post by: REDACTED on January 22, 2016, 04:51:08 AM
Hello everyone.

Today, my computer totally froze, so I had to shut down by pressing the power button. After that, I noticed that Avast! was bugged as hell, so I decided to reinstall Avast! by using the Avast removal tool.
After the installation, I scanned with MBAM, Avast! and ESET Online Scanner, just a scan that I don from times to times to see if anything is wrong.

I noticed that ESET found this:
 - Win32/Bundled.Toolbar.Google.D (probably Google  toolbar) located at C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\setup\gtoolbar_setup_14534222252276.exe

I noticed that it was located inside the Avast! folder. So I would like to ask if Avast! installer comes with the Google toolbar.
Also, does Avast! also comes with Google Chrome installer? I noticed that Chrome was installed after installing Avast!.

Thank you.

Errr, sorry for the double post (or bump, I don't know if this is allowed in these forums, couldn't find the rules).
I noticed that ESET didn't removed the suspected file because "Forbidden access" (Avast! is the owner of the folder, so that was expected).

But still, I would like to know if the Avast! Internet Security installer comes with both Google Chrome and Google toolbar.
And if yes (then it means that my PC is safe), then how can I remove the Google toolbar installer?

Thank you, and sorry about the double post.

Yes the Avast installer is bundled with Google "crap" :( you need to untick the Google chrome offers while installing.

Thank you for the answer.
Is there any way to remove it? ESET can't remove the installer.

What installer ??? If you're running ESET, you should have totally removed Avast before you installed Eset.

bob3160, Nori-chan is using the ESET on-line scanner for purposes of a backup ancillary scan and had uninstalled and re-installed Avast.

Nori-chan, what you need to do is a complete uninstall of Avast and clean re-install (steps outlined below) and when you do the install again make sure you do what CraigB posted:

You need to do a 'Clean Install' of the latest version of Avast (as you had done previously but w/out the "Google offers").

Download and save to your desktop  the Avast Uninstall Utility here:  https://www.avast.com/en-gb/uninstall-utility

Download to your Desktop the correct Avast version using the appropriate link below that specifically applies to you:

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup.exe

Now disconnect from the Internet
Uninstall Avast via the Control Panel

1.Run the uninstall tool and accept the reboot to safe mode
2.Once complete reboot your system
3.Reinstall Avast >>> and make sure to install custom, that is untick the Google chrome offers while installing.  ;)
