Title: HTTPS Web Scanning --> might not be working on every browser
Post by: REDACTED on January 29, 2016, 10:37:24 AM
Useful thing the Statistics feature.  It quickly and easily tells you what is and what is not happening in Avast.  I have a copy of Opera 12.17 on my system.  OK, I know it's legacy and obsolete but it also allows me to discover that not only is scripting not filtered (expected since Opera is not on the script filtering list) but also that Opera 12 https traffic is not scanned and I didn't expect that.  I mention this in case others might be under the same misapprehension as I was that https traffic on all browsers, new and old, is scanned by Web Shield.

Nothing is said in the Web Shield Main settings window to qualify the scope of enabled https scanning.

Thanks Eddy.  That's a paid for version I assume.  Sounds expensive.  So the cloud version works in a way which enables Opera 12 https to be scanned.  It's only right that those who pay get better features.  All I can say is neither Avast Free 10.4.2233 (on Windows XP) nor Avast Free 11.1.2245 (on Windows 7) provide me with the luxury of https scanning for Opera 12.

Still, better I am aware of the lack of https scanning so I don't get caught out and I only rarely use Opera 12 now.  It was a lovely web browser and I haven't the heart to uninstall it.

Avast Cloud 2509 must surely be the Silver Link of security software (are there any railway enthusiasts reading this?).

Thanks for that Eddy.  I found the relevant Avast cloud web pages.  Not being in business, I don't think I qualify for entitlement to use Avast's cloud product but we shall see.  Anyway I am more than delighted with the standard free product on my return to Avast having last used it over three years ago.  I had problems then with the randomly named emergency update files and Outpost firewall.  Agnitum seems to have ensured that Outpost 9.3 now trusts these emergency update files.

Avast has made significant improvements in those three years and its products are now very polished indeed.
