Title: Thunderbird Slowdown
Post by: Arnb on December 23, 2005, 10:26:13 PM
After installing version 4.6.744 I suddenly experienced severe slowdowns when downloading messages in Thunderbird 1.0.7 and 1.5 off my cable connection. Windows task manager shows ashMaisv.exe using all the CPU.  Also having problems sending messages, the send window wont close. It all goes away when Avast is stopped. Any suggestions welcomed.

Thank you

Arn

I use Thunderbird from time to time but I haven't experienced delays...
Maybe you can add the line
Log=20
to your avast4.ini file section [MailScanner] and then generate some email traffic.
This will log the info and you'll be able to post here and give us more chances to understand what is happening.
The log file will be at avast4\data\log (I'm on Linux now and can't remember exactly the name of the file, but maybe something related to mail).

I looked at the Avast settings for the various "providers" then rebooted and the problem  disappeared.   ???  However, Log=20 was added just incase it recurs.

Thank you

Just to finish my last post, now in Windows, the log file is:
C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\Avast4\Data\log\aswMaiSv.log

Hope this help but I'm glad you have already managed it  ;)

Try to change the level to normal in "standard shield"

Thank you for responding
I think that's one of the things I changed when the problem stopped.
