Title: Avast business Security engine update bricks Windows 10 Enterprise
Post by: REDACTED on February 16, 2016, 02:42:24 PM
Hello,

We are a pro user of Avast Business Security and pretty much all of our windows 10 Enterprise machines are suffering a "recovery mode" boot loop right after updating to the latest Avast engine and rebooting on request. At this time NO Windows updates were installed (the machines are all up-to-date and in the Enterprise version we have automatic updating disabled). Only the Avast engine update was installed and nothing else.

Only a System Restore to a restore point before the INITIAL Avast installation fixes the issue (in other words, removing Avast completely).

This is on multiple machines and it happened TODAY on two of our Windows 10 machines (a laptop and a desktop). A System Restore, as described above, fixes the issue.

Everything worked just fine before the update of today.

The exact same issue has happened before (several months ago) on a number of Windows 10 machines but I kind of blamed it on windows 10. However, it is very clear that this is caused (only) by updating Avast.

Any ideas?

Regards,
John

Please try to update A4B client to the latest version 11.1.2510.353 which was release 18th Feb 2016 (yesterday). The version is based on latest AV consumer product which includes many fixes.

I am seeing similar problems as the original poster, but with Wondows 7.  We've been using Avast for Business and just upgraded to 11.1.2510 from February 18th and several Windows 7 machines rebooted to the repair or restore screen immediately after the update. Repair fails after several hours and restore took it back to original factory settings, as Avast is one of the first things to get installed.

Also, it appears that the dashboard shows computers up to date with the latest version but I can't confirm that they have been rebooted yet. Does Avast consider the version updated after the install but before the reboot? Even the machines that crashed are showing current but with the last seen time as the time of the crash.

Thanks
