Title: How to unblock chat rooms.
Post by: Adstar on December 30, 2005, 04:40:10 PM

Hello all.

I am not a computer expert, so sorry if this question is dumb. But i have a problem.

Ever since i installed Avast 4 home i have not been able to enter into my favorite chat rooms on the internet.  :-[

I have a duel boot operating system computer. I have installed Avast on windows 2000 i also have windows 98. I can chat using windows 98 but when i boot into win 2000 where Avast is installed i cannot log into chat.

Is there a simple solution to this problem? Or is there any user documentation that someone can point me to for the Solution  :-\

Thanks for your time and any help you can come up with.  :)

Which firewall are you using while booting at Windows 2000?
If you disable WebShield avast provider, will it help?

I will try disabling  "WebShield avast provider" And see what happens. The only firewall i have is the one on windows 2000 so i suppose it is Avast.  I have nortons 2000 on my windows 98 OS.

Thanks for the Advice i will get back to tell you how things went.

Avast is not a firewall and from memory Windows 2000 does not install a firewall.

I would suggest that you have a look at some of the excellent Free Firewalls available.
A firewall is a very important tool for enhanced internet security a must have imo

Freeware Firewalls

Kerio Personal from Sunbelt (http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm)

Comodo Personal Firewall (http://www.personalfirewall.trustix.com/)

Zonealarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=dbtopnav_zass)
