Title: development focus
Post by: davexnet on March 22, 2016, 04:57:06 PM
Seems as if avast spends more time developing new, invasive, methods of self promotion than
they do improving the core product.
This morning I received this pop up box, followed by the second box when I pressed skip.
What a joke.
All I have installed are the web and file shields.  I don't like it, and even if I wanted a password manager,
avast woul;d be the last place I'd look.

Have you actually got avast password function installed ?

There is a free password version included in avast - so it will be available as a scan option in the Scan function.

I have never seen this UI window for avast Passwords displayed. This most likely because I have never installed the free version of avast Passwords. Are you sure you don't have it.

I always do a custom install and as you will see from my attached image it is a very minimal installation and I have never seen this screen.

Hi Davidr, I always do a custom install also.
Widnows xp/control panel/add-remove programs/avast/change shows this:

Only have the shields installed.  How/why am I getting this popup.

Running 2245, not keen on updating.  Concerned about how invasive each release seems to be.
For example, when did they start their email sig promotion on web-based email?  That takes a lot of balls

There isn't really any point in waiting or you are effectively never going to get past that point.

Given there is so little in difference in the actual build numbers 11.1.2245 to 11.1.2253, these are more likely to be enhancements/bug fixes etc. So I think it would be in your interest to update. Or even do a clean install - see https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=182468.0 for more info on 2253.

Email signatures have been avast for a very long period of time what changed was the ability to scan webmail, that is when people essentially noticed. That function would certainly be in 11.1.2245 and it may not actually have the option to change that in the avastUI > General section, but 2253 does.
