Are they compatible? was about to install it and figured I should ask first.

Yes, EPS .1606 is compatible with Windows 2k12 R2.  I recommend that on the server you include a light installation package to include only the File, Web and Mail Shield (Sharepoint if you have) and that is all for the server.
