Title: Help
Post by: REDACTED on April 17, 2016, 09:53:59 PM
Can someone here tell me where to get help?  I have tried support on numerous occastions and never receive any response.

I have been a customer for several years.   I have done everything to get rid of a problem that began a few months ago.  There is a program or something else on my computer that I can't get rid of.  I don't even know what it is or what is causing the action I discuss below.  Avast can't find what is causing it when scans are done but I am really getting sick and tired of it.

Any time that I am online a box appears in the lower right screen with ads in it.  Every time I click to another link, there it goes again.  It's called ads by ArcadeCake.  Also at the same time a new tab appears in the upper right of the screen that pulls up another link to another advertising site:  http://crpsro.com

Why is it that Avast doesn't detect it and toss it?  Can you help?

OK lets have a look see

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/files/file/435-frst-farbars-recovery-scan-tool/) and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Did you get the files - Was it you that has downloaded them twice?  Do I have to remove this post and am I now at risk?  Just askin.

If you wish to remove the logs you attached, just navigate to the post they are in and click the Modify button in that post. When the Modify screen appears click the 'Attachments and other options' that you used to attach them.

You should then be able to remove the those attachments, see image example, click to expand.

Okay, here you go.  I had to run it twice as it failed half way through, not sure why.  Anyway, the final report is attached.  It's "almost" gone.  There is now a popup with an error read that comes up every time I add or change a link.  Not getting the ad anymore nor the new tab at the top of the browser, but I do get this error read instead:

RunDLL

There was a problem starting C:\Users\Patty
Baldwin\AppData\Local\ArcadeCake\cakebake.dll

The specified module could not be found.

I've just realized that I now have one more situation.  After running all of this stuff I have lost all my games.  Everything...10 years worth.  If you could let me know about that screen that keeps coming up, I'd appreciate it.  Thank you.

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset  System Restore points:

Remove tools

Download and run Delfix (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/delfix/)
Select the options as shown
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/delfix.JPG)

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article (http://www.forbes.com/sites/eliseackerman/2013/01/11/us-department-of-homeland-security-calls-on-computer-users-to-disable-java/)

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser (http://www.geekstogo.com/2600/how-to-disable-java-in-your-web-browser/) and How to unplug Java from the browser (http://krebsonsecurity.com/how-to-unplug-java-from-the-browser/))

If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa  (https://singularlabs.com/software/javara/javara-download/)
Run the programme and select  Remove Java Runtime.  Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/javara.JPG)

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent (http://www.foolishit.com/vb6-projects/cryptoprevent/) install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware

Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php)

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Unchecky (http://unchecky.com)

Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme  ;)

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
