Title: NEW: Beta version released - 2016.12.1.2263
Post by: MartinZ on May 06, 2016, 02:29:04 PM
Hi all,

new beta version is live: 2016.12.1.2263
In this beta we removed some non crucial features and focused on overall performance.

Changes:

+ New scan API for browsing
+ Removed NG (VHardware virtualization) - moved the technology to cloud, in next betas we will introduce new flow for handling unknown files
+ Removed Stats - Under redesign, will be returned later
+ Antispam module is now optional, not installed by default
+ Remote assistance removed for good
+ Fixed problems with Avast Account
+ Fixed issues with slow loading pages in SafeZone browser
+ Fixed creation of Rescue Disc

Known issues:

- Data Shredder UI doesn't work correctly
- SafeZone browser - Pay Mode does not work (will be fixed in next beta)
- Network threats (HNS) - affected devices are sometimes incorrectly displayed in Smart Scan results
- User interface might freeze after inserting a license

Download links as usual or just update your current beta.

Enjoy,
Martin

@MartinZ: Thanks for the positive changes. Is it possible to remove the Avast Sign in via Avast GUI for good. I want that to be removed, because it's unnecessary.  It is still having issues with it. Lukas.Hasik has the details about my reported problem. Bug number: BYU-790-31187. Thanks.

Thanks for the update Martin.

@Staticgy
Is it possible to remove the Avast Sign in via Avast GUI for good. I want that to be removed, because it's unnecessary.
For me Avast Account is somewhat useful for monitoring my parents' Avast and my mobile phone.
If you have only one PC and no mobile phone which have avast installed, then, it might be unnecessary...

@NON: I am not the only one who is facing this issue. There's another avast user here who has confirmed my findings about this bug and also I had Avast Support Tech do a remote assistance on my laptop and also confirmed it. This bug may affect only a limited amount of avast users.

Well, I'm just saying Avast Account is not unnecessary for some people like me.
I don't have any intention to deny there are some issues with it.

I agree, Avast Sign in via Avast GUI should be made as an optional installation rather than recommended.

No need to install it, or remove it if not needed. ;)

Nice to see a new beta released, might actually try this one shortly on my Windows 10 Desktop,  Now will I have to remove it again when Anniversary update comes out, despite i'm planning clean install near the release of that anyways, or sooner depending on If I get my Windows 10 Pro upgrade money.

Problem I was having was escalation of ram, I did send in a support case to Firestorm Secondlife viewer (3rd party)  but I do miss my avast, and Windows Defender scans so slow lately in Windows 10, so either I may do a system reset and reinstall the next final Avast,  or try the beta and see how it is, then decide if gonna do refresh sooner, or what.

Finally Avast! moves that sandbox analysis to cloud...atleast it doesn't have to be limited to certain users.

Not enough things removed, Clenup and Passwords  should go as well.

Also, can you please finally remove the idiotic requirement to register free version?

Registration removal was tested some time ago, nothing heard about it since then.

It would be nice if they finally removed it. Then people would hopefully stop complaining about the antivirus trying to scam them into buying paid version, well, that is provided they don't get one of those firewall related "scam" windows :-X or some other example of avasts PR department disasters.

Seems like a good update and nice to see issues getting addressed...

I think the following should be removed - easily seen as bloat:

SecureLine - standalone product
Cleanup - does more harm than good
Passwords - standalone product

I also don't understand why a module of Browser Cleanup is needed... can't the file shield and browser protection remove bad addons?

Regarding the anti-spam add on, I'd rather it be enabled my default - not everyone will have another anti-spam software.

I don't think paid users with Internet Security and Premier will be pleased if anti-spam is advertised as a core feature of the paid suite and isn't installed by default.

The Avast account is very useful.  I see no need to remove it just because a few users have problems.  Far better to fix the problem those users are having.

the browser cleanup was actually one of rare special modules doing quite good job vs modules, addons, toolbars ...

of course it seems completely 'useless' for all the users w/o anything bad in theirs browser :)

but I seen it used vs some infested browsers and it did quite well

@Gopher John: I myself discovered this issue long time back, i think it was from Avast version 8/9 till present and the bug is still present. Last time I heard from avast (few months ago) is that they will redesigned GUI after you sign in into your avast account via the Avast GUI.

The Avast account is very useful.  I see no need to remove it just because a few users have problems.  Far better to fix the problem those users are having.

I agree - Please remove these 'optional' features from the free version.

BUG ALERT - SecureLine running without permission - After the reboot for the 2016.12.1.2263 update - I now see a new systray app for SecureLine I DID NOT authorize to be running.  I have all 'Tools' OFF - disabled...

I did enter a separate thread for this bug...
It almost appears this feature is now part of the main application - a very poor design choice in my opinion. An app to provide a VPN interface has no business running.  If this VPN app's secure container is some-how used by the AV portion - then put it in a shared DLL - do not make the VPN feature part of the main app. Since a reboot is required to enable a 'feature' - these features should be in their own external DLL/container and loaded on startup.

1. It isn't doing anything, it isn't installed and there is a clear sign that it isn't enabled, the circle with bar (no entry, e.g. not installed).

2. For as long as I can remember this is a function that avast already does, enter gaming mode for full screen programs. No idea what you mean by optimize the performance as there are many thing that can be done to optimize performance.

Also is this really something and anti-virus program be doing, changing your system performance, I think not.

well there is problem with silent running / no pop-up mode

it's really painful to find 'useful' logs about detected / actions done by Avast!

this combined with removal of statistics (temporary until improved I hope)

makes real PITA to figure out what avast! did while in background

Not to mention the "scam" window trying to hoist the paid version on them that scares many of them as hell.

Remote assistance was actually a useful feature.
I always knew that if the person with the problem had Avast on their system,
I could get remote access to help them fix their problem.Instead of removing something useful, why not fix any problems in that module.

I diagree.

An anti-virus doesn't need remote assistance - there's many free software like TeamViewer that do the joh.

The same can be said for the Passwords and Cleanup module where the latter seems to do more hard than good.

You're missing the point.
Those that need help aren't computer literate. Asking them to install something else is a chore.
Using something they already have makes life much easier. A password Manager is also a Security Tool.
Cleanup certainly is not. :)
