Title: Avast! 4 Server on SBS 2000
Post by: Burl on December 02, 2003, 11:55:56 PM
I have the trial version of Avast! 4 Server Editon installed on an SBS2000 server that is also running MS Exchange Server 2000 using the SMTP connector only.  The client machines use Outlook 2002 as their messagaging client.

When Avast starts, I see three warning messages stating that the associated ports 143, 24, and 110 for IMAP, SMTP, and POP3 respectively, are already in use.

What needs to be done eliminate these messages and to get Avast to scan incoming and outgoing e-mail for all users on the Exchange Server?

It is a warning from the 'Internet Mail' plugin. As you don't need it in your configuration, start the 'Mail Protection Wizard' and select to remove protection, this will disable only that plugin.

Right; it's a bit wonder how you actually got the SMTP/POP/IMAP service started, in the first place. I mean, by default, it's disabled. You had to start the Mail Protection Wizard by hand, and activate it, right?

Thanks for the help.  Since it was previously installed by another person, I was not aware of what steps had been taken.
