When I tried updating my AVAST program to version 11.2.2738 (current version I'm using is 11.2.2262), it says "Error: HTTP server returned error". Before I was able to update but now I can't!
It says:
Last encountered error: HTTP server returned error
Total time: 30s
Download time: 11s
Downloaded files: 12 (3.61KB)
Server: Download v4202226 AVAST9 Server

Why update to an old version?
Download the latest version from here on the forum and install over the top of your existing https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=187663.0
-
So I'm going to download this:
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
even if I have an existing AVAST anti virus?
-
Yes
-
Ok thanks for your reply, downloading....
-
I clicked the installer then it showed me this:

Have you changed the install location of your current Avast?
Uninstall the version you have now from Remove Programs - reboot then install the new copy in custom install - untick features not required and reboot again when finished and register the new version.
-
It didn't work it still displays the same pop-up. Great now I don't have an anti virus.
-
Someone please reply. Avast is my only reliable anti virus now I can't download it because of the error.
-
I'm not sure what is happening there, try running the avastclear tool http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe to remove remnants then attempt to reinstall the new downloaded copy
-
What didn't work ??
Did you finish the uninstall of the previous used Avast version?
Did you do a restart?
-
I finished uninstalling avast, I did a restart, I can't download it because it says: The procedure entry point GetLogicalProcessorInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.
The same error appears when I run the installer and the "avastclear" file.
-
Sounds like your system has some issues, I'll see if I can attract one of the malware guy's attention to this for them to look into.
-
Oh okay, btw, my
OS is Windows XP SP2
Ram: 2GB
Graphics Card: Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset
Processor: Intel Pentium M 1.73GHz
-
Do you have any other security software installed? as something could be blocking access to the dynamic link library or it could possibly be a hardware fault.
I've reported it to essexboy to look at but it may be some hours before he is on the forum.
-
There are currently 2 security softwares I have installed on my system: Malwarebytes (14 day premium trial) and USB Disk Security.
-
Malwarebytes shouldn't be an issue, not sure about the other USB security program.
You could try disabling both to see if the Avast uninstaller will download/run
-
Disabled both and still has the error.
-
Ok, please wait for one of the specialists to look into.
-
Okay.
-
OS is Windows XP SP2
32/64 Bit..?
-
32 bit

32 bit
OK, you need to update your XP to SP3, else Avast won't run.
-
What explains me running Avast before the update?

What explains me running Avast before the update?
The latest versions need SP3.
-
Oh okay, how can I download the older versions?

Oh okay, how can I download the older versions?
No need for an older version, just update your XP.

Fine. I will have my new laptop anyways on Monday ^.^ (Dell Inspiron i5559)
Thanks for your support! I'll use AVG for now.
BTW, my laptop lag spikes on SP3 so that's why I'm using SP2
-
1. Thanks for your support!
2. I'll use AVG for now.
1. You're welcome.
2. That's OK, see: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=188195.0 ;)

Nvrmd, I think my system doesn't support any existing anti virus anymore :C but I will still be an AVAST Supporter! :D
Guess I will have to stick with MBAM. I have read that Avast and AVG will team so I guess AVAST's future will be the best! More likely to be the best free anti virus as of 2016! :D
