Title: Can avast! scan multiple email accounts?
Post by: equip14 on December 04, 2003, 05:19:21 PM
Avast! is a wonderful email / system scanner. I have multiple email accounts that I access via a single email client. Each account has its own SMTP / POP3 server. Is there a way that avast! can protect each account?

Thanks for your help.

I think I might have found the answer. (Checking the help always helps)
From the help:
Quote
The values DefaultSmtpServer, DefaultPopServer and DefaultImapServer are utilized only when the login name set in the e-mail program does not contain any server address. If the login name for the POP server is e.g. Ann.Jones, the Mail scanner will download the e-mail from the server given by DefaultPopServer value. However, if the login name is Ann.Jones#pop3.tiscali.com, the Mail scanner will connect to the server pop3.tiscali.com and it will download the mail for the user Ann.Jones. The same rule holds for the IMAP protocol. The same rule holds for the SMTP protocol as well; additionally, it is possible to set the login name in the form #smtp.tiscali.com, which means that the mail will be sent using the server smtp.tiscali.com without any authentication. Sending e-mails also depends on the UseDefaultSmtp value.

equip,

Although lenghty, the explanation was essentially correct but not the easiet way to do things.

When running the Mail Protection Wizard found in the Programs folder for Avast, check the box that says protect all my accounts.

This does the job.

Good luck
