Title: SmartScreen vs Avast's Web Shield
Post by: REDACTED on August 01, 2016, 03:21:42 AM
Hi guys:

I have a question regarding if SmartScreen (Windows 10) and Web Shield (Avast!), do the same task? Because if so, it is pointless to keep working both at the same time.
What do you think?
Do these tools differ in anything?
In advance, thank you very much .

As often, they do overlap (up to a point) but each has things the other one hasn't.

They do overlap, however there is a bunch of differences, disregarding the fact the smartscreen detects completely different set of samples than avast.

An example can be the fact, that webshield scans the content before it is delivered into the browser, smartscreen, as far as I understand it, only acts on downloaded binaries.
