Title: Avast bug makes security center detect no antivirus
Post by: ehmen on August 02, 2016, 02:26:43 PM
Hi, from when I rebooted on Sunday after updating Avast, my Windows Security Center claims that it can't find any antivirus software running. I tried repairing Avast (free), as well as running the emergency update file discussed in other threads here and then rebooting, as well as generally rebooting quite a few times over the last day and a half.
Is there a reason why this is happening, if the newest update bug is supposedly fixed? And is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thank you.

Hello ehmen,
this issue has been addressed by latest version of Avast - Nitro 12.2.2276. Are you running the latest version? If you are, clean installation (first uninstalling Avast using AvastClear (https://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility) and then installing the latest version from our website) should help.

You need to perform a clean install:

1.Download your version of avast!, the avastclear tool and save them to the desktop:

Avast Free Antivirus (http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe)
Avast Pro Antivirus (http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup_offline.exe)
Avast Internet Security (http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup_offline.exe)
Avast Premier (http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup_offline.exe)

Download Avast Clear Tool (http://www.avast.com/en-gb/uninstall-utility)

2. Uninstall Avast in Control panel  [If you don't have Avast in control Panel go to #3]
3. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear. [Running Avastclear is normal mode will give a prompt to go into Safe Mode]
Check : Once uninstalled check in device manager>view>show hidden devices if there is anything related to avast with a yellow triangle.. if so, uninstall it and reboot.
5. Install the version you downloaded.
6. Reboot.

Free: If you have the Free version, register the product for free for a year from the avast! UI.
Paid: If you have a paid license, insert the license key/activation code after the reboot at stage 6.

Thanks. I tried the emergency update file, as well as repairing Avast and rebooting Windows.
It didn't help.
Also, I find it hard to believe that right after the Avast update the WMI became corrupt.

I don't understand, weren't we notified that the bug was fixed? So why can't my Avast still not communicate with Windows Security Center?

No one knows why Avast is doing this or how to fix it?

I did. Can you please be a little more specific about what in that thread you think I should do?

You cannot do anything right now. There is an information that I am working on it and it should be fixed in the next version.
I apologize for the bug, however you are safe because security center on windows vista is a just informational thing. Our (non)registration there doesn't impact your security.

@petr_matrix, any update on when my security center will start picking up Avast?

I have already fixed it, not sure if it will get into next release but I hope it will.

Fix is in the RC ?

It isn't. There were two bugs:
1) wsc isn't working after update on Win10 RS1 untill restart - fixed in RC
2) wsc isn't working on Win Vista at all - this thread and my answer (will be in the next build if current RC won't be promoted to the final)

Thanks,

I just updated to version 12.3.3154 and my security center is still alerting me that there's no antivirus installed on the computer.

Should be fixed in the latest build.
Try to reboot your system several times.
