It say that there is a new version available but when I try to update,it says that I have the latest version and it continues saying that I'm at risk.

Don't worry :)
Basicly you are not at risk, as you are running the latest Avast version.
It is just the message that is wrong !
My guess is that this is a server-side problem Avast has to solve.

Hi all,
We are currently working in fixing the problem with the update to .2279. The fix should be released soon (most probably via VPS).
Sorry about it :-\

The problem was indeed on Avast servers, and is fixed now :)

Don't worry :)
Be happy !

Yes it's fixed but I had to restart the pc to make that message go away(I didn't tried just log off=>log in and checking for updates also did not fix it)

I have the same problem....."restart" does not eliminate it, and the lower taskbar icon continues to show the exclamation mark and hovering over it continues to show "ATTENTION". Otherwise, I'm sort of relieved that I am supposedly still protected (?)

Hi tlrn38, welcome to the forum :)
Are you sure you have the same problem ?
Or just the same message, caused by a different problem.
Try a repair of Avast https://www.avast.com/en-eu/faq.php?article=AVKB204#artTitle

tlrn38,
it will only be solved if you have the latest update(s) installed.
Just a restart will not work.
