If you have auto updates enabled then every time you connect to the internet or every 4 hours avast checks to see if they are available, if so they are downloaded. There is no hard and fast schedule currently there about 4-5 per week, although I have seen as many as 3 in a day.

Thanks, I only asked, because when I did a manual update today it told me that all the files were up to date. Also while I’m hear can I ask where I can find the auto update scheduler.

Right click the avast icon, Program Settings, Update (basic) and Update (connection). The Details button in Update (Basic) allows you to change the default duration of 240 mins (4 hours).

However it isn't recommended to reduce this greatly as it will only increase server load and not achieve much, especially if you are on dial-up as everytime you connect avast checks.

Thanks found it but will do as you suggest and leave as is. Even though on ADSL connection.
