When running an AIS scan, I note that "outdated software," "performance issues" and "weak passwords" were found as issues. I only want to fix "outdated software." but the only choice I have is to "Resolve all." Is it possible to just resolve "outdated software"?

Easiest solution is just to perform a Scan for outdated software ;)
But if you go to : Avast - Settings - General - Smart Scan - you can select with on/off what has to be included.

I don't understand your answer. So, when the Smart Scan says that we have "vulnerable software" or "performance issues", you expect us to blindly click "Resolve", with no explanation of what is going to happen, and no choice about which items we want to resolve?
The same goes for the Cleanup Scan - it classes some apps as "redundant", even though there are a few that I'd I'd want to keep. Still, the only option is "Resolve", with no way to opt-in or opt-out some apps.
It also classifies some files as "Junk", such as "Software Distribution". If this is part of the Windows OS distribution, then installing hardware and updating software will need the original install disks.
If any of this is the case, then this part of the avast suite is absolutely useless.

There is no need to explain more.
It is just a matter of reading the fact's etc.
They explain what it mean and what will be done etc.
If you want to use software, learn how to use it, what the settings do etc.

Just run the Software Updater on its own - AvastUI > Protection > Software Updater.

If you want to remove notifications in Smart Scan, then see attached below.
Always better to fix issues found: If not able to fix and need to know how, just ask.
Each scan option has a corresponding program you can run by itself, just so you know. Non-essential ones can be removed by doing a custom install of avast.

I do not want to disable the scans. Btw, I had already looked at the settings dialog.
I want to make use of the features, such as scanning for vulnerabilities, files, apps and settings that you believe I don't need. However, I am not going to accept the changes blindly, without knowing precisely what it wants to do to my system.
See ccleaner, as an example of an application that gives the user a choice:

Please tell me how I can review the particular changes avast is recommending, and how I can selectively choose which ones I'd like to proceed with. Without this functionality, then the only thing I can do is disable the functionality, which seems a waste of a lot of effort on your company's part to implement the features.

In essence, you can only make use of the features in the CleanUp tool if you purchase a license.
The free part is the scan the cleanup requires a purchase. You already mentioned an excellent alternative. :)
