Title: Password Generator
Post by: rickjeancarlton on December 15, 2016, 04:39:49 PM
I am trying to change my duplicate passwords.  When I go to the change password page on my website, I am not always getting the password generator with the option of a new strong password.  I see the "key" in the current password box, but there is nothing in the new password box.  Clicking on the key only seems to bring me back to the main password page.  How do I get the password generator to open?

Hi rickjeancarlton,

could you give us a list of websites, where password generator did not work for you?

Thanks

Like rickjean, I am not having much success with this.  On none of these sites am I able to use the "password generator" to create a new, strong password on the change password page.
https://www.bankofamerica.com/
https://www.wellsfargo.com/
And worse, on this one, my credit union, even though I manually entered my info into Passwords, it won't even log me in, let alone make changes.
https://www.myspire.com/

It would seem to me that these banking sites would be the best place to use a strong password manager -- does Avast Passwords even work at all?

Mac running OS 10.11.6  and Firefox

Has anyone figured this out?  I still can't get my password generator option to show up like it used to.  All of the sudden its just gone. I'm using Avast Internet Security version 17.2.2288.  My password vault is unlocked and I've double checked all the settings.  The only other thing I can think of is a Java issue if this function requires it.  I'm guessing it had to do with the major update coming into 2017 but I haven't been able to find anything on the web about it.  PLEASE HELP!!!

If Avast took this feature away from the new version then thats the last straw for me.  Their decision to flood not just their free versions with adds, but the paid versions that I use on my Windows 10 PC my family's Android pads and phones.  The adds are so bad its almost impossible sometimes to get around them.  I could only imagine how hard it is for disabled or senior users who may not have the dexterity of younger or healthier users who are barely able to navigate the teeny tiny little x way out of sight.  Unno the one where you have to hit it just right or your taken off course to some stupid advertisement half of which look like spam to me just waiting to infect your device.  Thank you Avast for forcing us to pay for your most expensive version which has extra's most of us will never use.  You have a real racket going on.

It pains me to say what I said because I have been with avast for years back when I built my first 64 bit win 98 PC and couldn't find a free antivirus until I stumbled upon Avast.  Ever since I've recommended Avast to just about every person I meet in need of antivirus.  I can honestly say I've never had a complaint until recently when the adds got unbearable especially when I remembered I paid extra for no adds in the past along with extra services they provided.  I hope Avast hears my complaints along with many others who feel like Avast sold out.  I had no problem paying for what services I wanted but pressuring me to purchase services I don't want in order for your metrics to look better.  It's funny how history repeats itself and company's run a good run with satisfied happy customers then realize they've cornered the market and some greedy executives want to squeeze every cent possible from there customers rather than keep them happy, loyal, and referring business to many others.  Instead you get greedy and customers begin looking for company's like you used to be.  Usually fresh, clean, companies willing to keep their customers happy and give them the services they want.  Like I said it pains me saying all of this but maybe my feedback will actually be appreciated and escalated to the right people to make a difference.

OK, I'm off my soap box and back to my original question.  WHY IS MY PASSWORD GENERATOR GONE?

Hi duckwhiler,

is your problem that password generator does not appear on the websites when you want to create a new account or change password? Is it happening on a specific websites or everywhere?

I have problems with avast generating a new password for new sites as well. I go to Norton password generator, generate it there, copy it, and put it in the new field, the avast will remember it.

pretty sad avast works with way. i never had this problem with last-pass. you can generate a new password whenever you want.

It is truly sad how much potential there is for this. I can understand the number of sites where Passwords doesn't auto-recognize that we are wanting to create a new strong password. Not recognizing that on your own forum is baffling. Not giving us a ready access to password generation is a critical flaw in the design for me as a user. If you would allow the user to say "I need a password for a site that you don't recognize" I think that would meet many needs.

Over 6 months and none of my posts have been directly addressed.

Hi,
I'm patiently waiting as well to see an answer to this problem. As a matter of fact my password generator does not show up on any site, I have never seen the feature.
I'm mostly using Chrome.
But why does Avast not make the generator an stand alone App? One that you can call upon at will when needed, simply by clicking a button in the Avast control panel.
