Title: Windows Explorer slow and screen blanks out for several seconds
Post by: TCPconflicts on February 19, 2006, 04:29:17 AM
I was wondering if anyone has experienced a situation whereby their monitor would go dark for a few seconds when they opened Internet Explorer and also experienced slowdowns with Windows Explorer.  Every time I click on one of my virtual drives (a FAT32 partition), windows explorer hangs and takes forever to close.

I've tried Cool Web Shredder (removed cws.msconfig but that could be a false positive), ran Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Ewido, MRU Blaster, Bazooka, and did an Avast Bootscan on both my OS drive and the FAT32 partition and they all were clean.

I even tried a Sophos scan as well as running Hijackthis.  Nothing unusual appears.

Suspecting it could be a conflict with the Ewido Trial version (even though I close it down when it starts up), I just uninstalled Ewido and so far, so good.  I have 384 mg on the system and MS Giant Spyware, the multiple Avast Shields, Spybot, and Zone Alarm may just be too much even with Ewido closed down.  I suspect that even if you close down these programs, they still have some hidden dll lurking in the background.

I just used Regseeker after uninstalling Ewido and rebooting, and found 31 references to it remaining (which I deleted).
