Title: After exporting from avast password no browser, or lastpass will recognize CSV
Post by: REDACTED on December 28, 2016, 07:41:00 AM
I'm trying to import my passwords into my firefox, chrome, and last pass. I have exported the avast password database to the CSV file. When I go to import them into anything, they all tell me the file is unrecognizable, or cannot import from this file. How am I supposed to get these passwords out of the avast password manager? Is there a chrome extension that will do it? Not even password exporter add-on in firefox will recognize the file. I'm exported the file three times already. Last pass had no issue firefox pulled in lastpass's csv file. It's frustrating that something this simple takes more than a few clicks when a free app does it. Makes me regret paying the license fee for an app that lags and freezes my phone and tablet everytime i use the one-click login. I just want my passwords and user names exported out of there so I won't be forced to renew a license for this again. The bloatware of ads in the antivirus and cleaner have gotten to be useless. Makes me sad, Avast used to be the best but now it seems it is all about money and getting it anyway possible instead of being there to help people. Doing what enriches your own life doesn't make it right when it affects the masses. Slows down everything just for a quick buck from advertising and who knows who is being sold that data.

The CSV is not meant to transfer passwords, but just as a backup.

There is also no need to transfer passwords if e.g. Firefox and Chrome are on the same system.
If they are on different systems you can use synchronization.

There is a misunderstanding. I want to export all of my saved passwords to a file so I no longer am forced to use avast password manager. When you install it, it takes all of your "insecure" passwords and erases them from chrome, firefox etc... I don't want to sit here for hours going through all of these websites reentering every single password and having to wait 6 seconds clicking that eye with the slash icon just to see what the password is. I want to rid myself of this program and yearly fee. It doesn't fit my needs. Lastpass does a better job and it's free.

As I said, the export option is only to create a backup it is not a transfer method.

But Lasstpas can use it to import the names/passwords > https://helpdesk.lastpass.com/importing-from-other-password-managers/
You do need to have the binary component installed in order to do so.
