Title: What to do with virus in chest?
Post by: Pawgy on February 27, 2006, 09:40:36 PM
my system is w982ed. 256meg ram. 80 gig hard drive with 30 gig used.Normally I have 205 meg of RAM free on start up. With Avast 4.6 installed I have 170 meg of ram free. Avast puts three items in start up.

Please HELP !!! I installed Avast4 with no problems. 170 meg of free ram is  Not good but a lot better than NAV.
Heres my question. I ran a C/drive deep scan virus check. 100,000 folders and was only half way Thur in 4 1/2 hours. I stopped but will do the rest tonight.

Avast 4.6 found a virus and I put it in the Virus chest. there were also 3 other entries in the chest.

1. command.com from c drive from some time in 1999
2. Kernel32.dll from c/windows/system from 1999
3. Wsock32.dll from c/windows/system from 2003
and 4. the virus UniDist.ocx from C/program files/downloaded programs from 2003

I also have a Virus in a Quarantine folder from Norton antivirus. it is just a number 22554cf2.exe

Now, what do I do with these items?. Just delete them? or???? I sure would appreciate any guidance as i have read the help files and the best they do is give me 4 options. But no indication as to which is best. Thanks again.

Also , is a deep scan always that slow?

I also have one other question. When i installed Avast I am sure I was able to check and uncheck many different options . Now with the Simple user interface when I click the dropdown menu it only has a few items to be selected. How do i get all the original options to show up?

Thanks very much for any help you may offer.

How about the options avilability question?
For program options just right click on the "a" icon in the system tray and from the appeared menu click Program settings, also you have access to the settings from the Simple User Interface Menu ( while scanning is in prograss you don't have access to the settings from the Simple Interface) ;)
And for the Resident Protection settings just click on the "a" icon in the system tray ;)
