Title: CryptoPrevent Free (and ransomware protection)
Post by: Lisandro on February 02, 2017, 07:00:30 PM
Each time I look for antiransomware protection tools, CryptoPrevent shines as the best one to be run side by side with Avast.
But, is it adding protection or, right now, it's just a placebo?
https://www.foolishit.com/cryptoprevent-malware-prevention/

Free Edition features include:

    New Folder Watch Protection
    Submit Malicious Files
    Improved Program Filtering Protection
    Improved Malware SRP Protection
    Expanded Malware Definitions (Optional)
    Free Updates (Manual)

When I've tried to explain CryptoPrevent features personally in Prague (block some folders), I think I couldn't express me correctly. Look at the screenshots. Will Avast 2017 protect this folders? What about the "maximum security" extra Windows functions blocking?

Thanks.

I am not sure if this is the best ransomware protection. Where do you get your information?

I do have a lifetime license for CryptoPrevent and a lifetime for WinPatrol WAR. I feel more comfortable using WAR after viewing tests and chatting.

I've tried this tool and it's clumsy as hell. There are way easier and better methods than this. Either by waiting for avast! to release their method or by using free tools like RansomFree. CryptoPrevent is just, I don't know, weird...

Yes, and add to that the multiple definition updates per week (Yes I don't check every day using the free version) you see it is now at version 8.0.2.5 after manually updating it, but, unlike CCleaner, it does not let you know a newer version is available when you run it.  Including that feature alone would make it a little less klutzy to use.

Ok guys, I agree about the interface. However, I'm not expert on the functions.
I think the better will be comment on its capacity of blocking ransomware while used side-by-side with Avast.
If it does not add protection, I'll uninstall it.
Can you say or test something in this regard? Thanks.

CryptoPrevent is a policy tool, that imo complements Avast ransomware protection https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/525028/cryptoprevent-does-it-work/
