Title: One command to keep all of your network free of ads: Pi-hole
Post by: polonus on February 03, 2017, 03:28:47 PM
Re about this compeltely open code internet advertisement blackholing : https://pi-hole.net/

Why do users use adblockers. Many not to come into contact with malvertisers and malvertisements.
Also one of my main reasons to use uBlock origin for instance.

Still the overall number of people that adblock (and third party script-block) is far too low (in my country, the Netherlands, only 17% of Internet users use adblockers), this percentage should only grow and grow.

Is this only for Linux?

You can make it work under Windows, read here: https://discourse.pi-hole.net/t/pi-hole-and-logstalgia-on-windows/496/5

You can also run it as dhcp server like described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/pihole/comments/5jkjfh/howto_pihole_as_a_dhcp_server/

Thanks for sharing Polonus.
It is just for Linux right now. I was trying to find the DNS servers of Pi-hole, but couldn't...

Major reasons for ad blocking:
1. Improve Overall Network Performance, since ads are blocked before they are downloaded, your network will perform better.
2. Reduce Cellular Data Usage
3. Block potential malvertising

Hi Lisandro,

For the moment I feel quite comfortable with FireHOL IP lists enable in uBlock Origin on Windows.
FireHOL blocklist is regularly maintained: http://iplists.firehol.org/
