Title: Bug Avast free 2017 and Windows 7 Update
Post by: REDACTED on February 13, 2017, 11:58:14 AM
Hi,

After the update of Avast free 2016 to 2017 version on my Windows 7 Pro, the Action Center alert me that Windows Update was desabled, but is not in fact. Windows Update is steel "green".
I don't want to desactive the message, that not a solution.

Finally, I used a system image of my computer to go back to Avast free 2016 and every things is ok now. I will keep this version until you fix this bug.

A link to the 2016 offline version installer will be apprecied.

Have a good day.

PS : I hate this kind of captcha as a lot of users!

avast doesn't disable/enables the Windows update settings.

The problem is very likely a known bug in the action center.
Reset the WMI and see if it solves the problem.

Maybe you'r right, but the problem is that Windows Action Center alerts me that the Windows Update is desabled, even if is not.
This problem appeared of my computer after the upgrade of Avast 2016 to Avast 2017. Return to Avast 2016 solve the problem...

The problem is very likely a known bug in the action center.
I don't think so.

Please, may have a link to download the last version of Avast 2016 (offline installer)?

I am running Windows 7 and AVAST free version, and just noticed the same behaviour as arnoldchoirsi. After Avast automatically uppdated to latest version, Windows Action Center alert me that Windows Update is disabled, but it is not.

I saved my settings in windows update without changing anything, and the alert went away. We'll see if it stays away or come back...

No, the solution was just temporary, the alert is back. And actually it's enough to open Windows update for the alert in the Action Center to go away, no need to save the update settings.

I have 8.1 and the current Avast update forces me to disable my protection to get Windows updates (same with IE, various applications, etc.).

How does it force you to do that ???

To open any of these I have to either disable the Behavior Shield or Avast entirely--then all is normal.

There's nothing to open when updating Windows.

Sigh.

Even though I have updates on automatic I regularly check for updates manually--Avast is blocking me from doing this.

You must have a special computer. I don't see anyone else complaining about problems with Windows updates.

I guess I do, Bob. And no one else is having any problems with the latest Avast update, are they now?

I still have the problem with Windows Action Center (on Windows 7) alert me that Windows Update is disabled, when it is not. This behaviour started after AVAST automatically updated to latest version. Of course it could be a coincidence, but if someone else have this problem (and even know how to fix it) I would be happy to know.

Hi,

It's not a coincidence. To "solved" the problem, I came back to the last Avast 2016 by using a Windows System Image, because no one give me a link where I can download an offline installer of Avast 2016. I reported this bug to the developers and I waiting for a reply too. When I would be tired of waiting for, I will install Antivir on my computer as I do from now on the computers of my friends/familly. AVIRA Antivir is as good as AVAST, but I prefer AVAST, that's all.

Good luck

Since I don't use Windows 7, I can't confirm or deny the problem.
The standard fix that's always worked is the following procedure:

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

Hi, and thanks for your answer. But if you used an system image to restore your computer, that means you restored everything on your computer back to earlier versions, all programs and windows updates etc, not only AVAST. How can you be sure it was the AVAST update causing problem, and not anything else that was restored? Or was you able to restore only AVAST from your system image?

If you restore an image, you install everything from that image.
It's going back in time.

By reverting to a "old" system image is not going to help isolate the issue. It's just giving-up.
The OP mentioned the behavior shield and I'm wondering if removing/deactivating the shield would resolve the issue.

Since the last update I am suffering from several very annoying Avast related bugs.

First i noticed very slow vmware performace ( https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=198604.0 ), then as mentioned by arnoldchoirsi, windows 7 insists that I have to activate the updates.

It seems to me unacceptable that last Avast version can give so many problems.

It was not a coincidence! 3 days ago I updated (via GUI) to Avast v17.3.2290, and since then the Action Center alerts about Windows Update are gone. Before updating the alerts showed about every second hour (I could make them disappear by just opening Windows Update). So it definitely was related to my previous version of Avast.

As a lot of company, AVAST don't care about users. The bug is not fixed and developers are certainly working on 2018 version from now. No one gave me a link to the 2016 offline installer even if it's easy. I lost my time to report the bug to developpers several months ago and I receved only one automatic answer... I advice to everyone around me, that do not install AVAST. AVAST has not a professional behavior. I hate that.

Oh no, the false Windows update alerts have been gone since I updated to Avast v17.3.2290 over a month ago, but yesterday I updated (via GUI) from 17.3.2290 to Avast 17.4.2294, and now the alerts are back in the same way as before!

The alert goes away temporarily if I just open Windows update without doing anything else, but reappears again now and then, exactly the same way as it was behaving before my update to 17.3.2290.

What's going on?

Well I started by repairing Avdast via the Windows Control Panel, and rebooted, but the Windows Action Center alerts that Windows Update is disabled, when it is not, still shows up at about every second hour or so.
