Title: Avast shows router password!
Post by: REDACTED on February 24, 2017, 07:15:18 PM
Hi all

After doing a scan, Avast states the router password is weak. The password itself is shown in asteriks but when you click on it, it 'turns it over' to let you see exactly what it is.

Now since I've got Avast installed on quite a few laptops for different people, all they'd need to do is click on the 'password' box and they'll know what it is.

Is there any way I can disable this feature?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Eddy.

The Avast version is 17.12286 (build 17.1.3394.46) and the router in question is the 2704n one (via PlusNet which is the ISP that issued it).

I guess the password in guestion is the one for logging in to adjust router settings and not the WiFi password ? ... or am i wrong

If so who made the router password?
was it you or is it the default passsword?

Hi Pondus.

It's the Wifi password that's shown. And it was myself that created it. I changed it from the default one that was quite difficult to remember (since it was a combination of letters and numbers, some uppercase, some lowercase).

I'm just wondering; if I change it to something stronger, will it still show up if someone was to go into the settings of Avast? - just as before?

And how often do you need to remeber it?
Do you add new computers / device evry day?

If not you do not need to remeber it, write it down
The idea with long passwords is that the longer it is the more difficult it is to crack

Sett it back to the long default or create a new  >>  https://identitysafe.norton.com/password-generator/

Then see what avast say

It seems that the password is weak. If the other computers are on the same network, they will see it as well.

1. change the password on router (not wifi password)
2. if you wish you can uninstall this component (Home network security / Wi-fi Inspector) via Settings -> Components

@Yul

Is your router password (not WiFi) the same as your WiFi password?

Either way, Avast shouldn't be showing passwords...

By router password, I mean the password required to log in to the router. There's an issue if it's showing the WiFi password.
