Title: Addon warning reputation
Post by: REDACTED on February 26, 2017, 11:42:42 AM
G'day!

I just got this popup regarding an addon I installed, "We have identified the following browser add-on, which has a bad reputation among Avast users."

Is there somewhere that that bad reputation can be examined? Is there a reviews page or something where I can see what people are saying about it? There's no link from the warning popup.

No, there is no review possible.

What add-on is detected ?

StingerNET. It's an augment for a browser game. I know it collects data from within the game, and I'm wondering if that's what gets it a bad reputation, or whether it collects other data as well.

Allows posting of data from Utopia to StingerNET.
If it automatically collects data and submits it, it can be personal data is amongst them.

The add-on has no rating in the store (yet) and is only used by a handful of people.
This is likely the reason why avast flags it as a "bad add-on".

You're welcome.
Title: AUSKey - Bad reputation plugin?
Post by: REDACTED on February 26, 2017, 02:23:35 PM
I am curious as to why the AUSKey plugin for Firefox is flagged as a bad plugin which Avast keeps wanting to remove.
The plugin is written by a branch of the Australian Government (Business Names register, probably part of ASIC, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission), which is part of the credentials for accessing confidential business records on the Government's websites.

Is it flagged bad because someone thinks so? Or is it flagged bad because it is unknown?
Given its very specific use, it is not going to have a large user base.
