Good news, everyone!
New Avast Antivirus version is here (17.2.2288). This version doesn't introduce any new features, rather fixes some of the most critical issues that appeared on the previous version
What's fixed:
- not working User interface after update
- problems on Windows Vista after update
- issues with SecureLine license after update
- conflict with Comodo firewall
- installation of web extensions on 64-bit version of Firefox
- problems with opening Avast UI after installation
- security issue in SafeZone browser banking mode
How to install:
1. Update from your existing Avast version via Settings -> Update -> Update program
2. Or you can download and install from here
Online installers (recommended):
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe

This release is stable and I don't see any major issues with it.
It would be nice if you could improve the speed of how fast the UI loads.

I have a problem with avast (This version and 17.1)
when i add a file to virus chest it goes to virus chest
But i can stiil see a copy of that file is there
everything else is good and speed of UI loading could be better
-
Thanks, it works :)

I suppose he/she is trying to say the file is "copied" not "moved" to the virus chest.
I think it is default behavior if an user intentionally adds files to the virus chest.

I downloaded the files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe and installed it over the top of the last avast beta version also 17.2.2288.
It is identical (using about avast) to the last beta in that both the version number and build number. There must surely have been changes to take account of the known issues in the last beta release.
Consequent to that installation I haven't yet been asked to reboot as I would expect on a 'program update' perhaps because it too doesn't see it has changed ???

Yes i mean it
-
I was intermittently getting slow browsing speeds on certain (Google?) websites.
For example: Google search would not load, Youtube loads, but videos do not, Adsense banners on other sites do not load.
I have disabled web shield and since then did not experience this problem anymore, but it requires more time to test, it may be a coincidence.

yes it is, as the file is not detected it is only a copy that is moved

That's weird, I just did an install over the top and I don't have the BETA branding. But I find other things very strange as to why this regular release has the same version and build number as the last beta version.

Did this update fix Google Chrome not running in the sandbox?
No, it didn't.
-
Tried to update the previous build through the GUI.
Everything went fine till it started trying to install what seems to be a update to the SZB.
It was something like safezone_window-7-i386
After 30 minutes it was still busy doing so.
No error, no message and the rest of the system kept working.
I wonder what windows-7-i386 is doing on a Windows 10 64 bit system....

What happened to the virus chest? Spent a lot of time looking for it and not found it (v2287). I sometimes use batch files to run certain programs and avast deleted one of them! I have no problem with it deleting something that may be seen as potential threat BUT must have a way to get it back! So where is the chest? Non-existent?

Easiest way, right click the Avast tray icon.

I created a new VM.
Installed Windows.
Installed the previous avast version.
No problems.
Rebooted a few times.
No problems.
Started the update and the same problem started.

Either Avast UI > Protection > Anti-Virus > Virus Chest or right click Avast tray icon > Virus Chest
I agree it's very hard to find... I've complained about the navigation about it too. Feel free to create a thread.
-
Thanks guys, I was looking through the UI. Not often I right click the icon other than to disable shields.
p.s. I should note that these latest beta versions seem most aggressive of all.
-
You're welcome.

17.2.2288 is not a beta amenx, but a stable release.
As far as you can call it stable ;D
-
Updated fine on 2 computers ... one on XP Pro SP3 and one with Win 10 64 Home ... Only issue was on the XP machine (on a Dell 2340M monitor) the installation box is way too large and you can not see any possible options that may be hiding at the bottom. On the Toshiba Win 10 Laptop, you do see the full installer, along with the Opt Out for Chrome .. That window can not be moved or resized. Avast should make it somewhat smaller. Otherwise install went fine, using the full off line installer.
-
Updated on 2 different systems - one two updates performed with last week or so.
As compared to:
Program version: 2016.12.3.2280
The main or "Splash" screen does not fit monitor window, cannot be resized to fill window, does not populate with either vertical or horizontal scroll bars and thus user cannot access certain information and links embedded on that window.
Tests performed on 14 and 15 inch laptop screens.
Do not recall a similar issue in any past versions.
New staff developing your updates??

As far as I'm aware, there is no download link for old versions on avast.com, they only deal with the current version of avast.
You will have to check various download sites that retain old versions of software. That is more likely to be more difficult for old versions of AIS as most only have old versions of the avast free product.
-
Hi, running Win10 Pro x64 up to date.
Latest AvastFree upgrade installed but no GUI - just blank white window frozen on desktop. Used avastclear.exe in safemode and reinstalled - same problem.
System happy back on version 12.3.2280 (build 12.3.3154.0). >:(
Never used no other AV etc so no idea what to try as system unchanged. Can I just safely crack on with old working version and new signatures and hope for the gremlins to be thrashed with a later upgrade? Usually seems to do the trick when something befuddling happens once in a while. :)

I've found a bug in the Avast Online Security Extension when using Firefox, and I did a repair nothing has been fixed and I did a complete reinstall of AIS v17.2.2288 nothing has been fixed see image attachment also the Avast Online Security Extension addon version is v12.0.163
Edit:- sorry for the typo error in the image attachment as I'm in a hurry as I have to get ready for Lodge.

You need to keep the Avast cookies.

No, there is some sort of bug which is doing this. I've reported it on Slack and I'm not sure if anyone has seen it. Took them a while to even make addon functional in Firefox 64bit...

See attachment this is not an Avast cookie issue when using Firefox 64bit browser.

I just had a good laugh, I visited avast.com and seeing the avastUI on a representative laptop and it takes up most of the damn screen, yet the UI is virtually empty.
But I saved the best to last, see attached image - Fewer clicks, more intuitive and easy to use. A lot of users on these forums would disagree with some of these according to some of their posts.

I also get question on how to access one or another feature or setting within Avast.
Many of the seniors I interact with are confused about all of the changes and wish avast was still using
this interface:

Change just for the sake of change has never been something I liked.
It certainly isn't something most older users appreciate.

There have been some really great UIs along the way from 4.x on, for me it would be a toss up between avast 7 & avast 8 for the best interface. But many of the early UIs after the skinable avast 4.x have been also been reasonably good.
I really did like the ability to set your own most used shortcuts in your image.
They got rid of that and despite the support for revamping the right click (context menu) of the avast tray icon that we have been asking for, nothing, nada, zero, zilch. I would have thought that would have been one of the easier mods, still nothing. This really would have reduced the number of clicks (to the commonly used functions) making it more intuitive and easy to use.

See attachment this is not an Avast cookie issue when using Firefox 64bit browser.

You basically installed the same binaries over, so no restart needed. You were just switched from beta update channel to production update channel.

Avast 17.1 and 17.2 has longer scan times for all scans compared to version 12. I mean first scan after restart PC, if i run the same test again, it takes much less time to complete. This also affects launching programs. First launch has about 2 sec delay to launch and next launch is without delay. This never happend in version 12.

I ran into an issue with the latest version of avast (Free).
Program Version 17.2.2288 (build 17.2.3419.0)
I had to do TWO Separate re-starts on TWO Separate user accounts to get the avast update fully installed, and allow access to the second user account!
I am both Administrator and I have a user account for browsing. There is a second user account.
The update ran without a problem, from my user account, including the restart.
When I tried to open the second user account, windows 10 displayed an Error Message and would only allow Limited access. I was told that any changes would be lost when logging off. Avast was NOT showing anywhere on the task bar or Menu and Many desktop icons, and menu listings were absent.
I used the "cortana desktop search to find Avast and open the program, then Avast appeared on the task bar (^).
I tried several times to open Avast, but it would NOT stay open. The avast window would blink on then disappear within a second.
I brought up the Icon from the task bar, Right clicked, chose "Update" then clicked on Program (update).
I was told I had to re-start my computer to finish installing the update! The computer had ALREADY RE-STARTED, a day or two earlier, to finish installing the update using the Other user account!
After the SECOND Re-start the second user account opened normally.
There was no problem with the Administrator account.
Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

Repair Avast:

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

I tried to install Avast version 17.2.2288 using the previous version GUI (12.3.2280) and a clean install of the new version, but both failed. I followed the usual suggestions such as uninstalling, reinstalling, running avastclean.exe, and rebooting between attempts, but all I get for a GUI with the new version is a big white box. This is the same identical experience I had trying to update to version 17.1.2286, which did not work either. Fortunately, I set a restore point before starting, so I was able to restore the previous version of Avast (12.3.2280.)
This is the second version update failure in a row. I am astonished that a major security software company like Avast would release software that clearly is not ready for use. It is really irresponsible.

Problem in the Avast Antivirus.

I noticed the same thing on my Dell S2340M monitor .. You can not see the bottom of the installer screen.
But yet on my laptop I did see it ... What you might try is Right Click on an empty area of the Desktop, select
Properties and select a higher screen resolution to use while you are doing the installation. Later on, you
can reset it back to what it should be. And I agree, the installer window is WAY TOO BIG and also needs to
be allowed to be resizeable.

I have been banging this for so long it gives me a headache, certainly since I got an Acer Aspire One, Win7 Starter (32bit) 10.1", 1024X600 screen, this was over three years ago.
This as far as I'm concerned is even more critical than the size of the UI (which is massive). Avast are now designing the UI so it is always smaller than the resolution of the system. Yet nothing about the installation screen.
The suggestion to simply increase the resolution won't work as you can't raise it higher than the native resolution. Well it is possible but you have to perform a hack to artificially allow you to do it, the screen isn't great, but at least you can see the complete installation screen.

You'll find the hack instructions here:

Thanks for that again Bob, hopefully avast will do something about the size of the installation screen, so people don't have to apply a hack to see all of the installation window.

Hello!
The installation of Avast software causes blue screen of death shortly after the system is booted. It started after upgrading Avast to the latest version. While the system is loading, HDD light flashes actively. Also was not able to run Google Chrome while the system was booting...
I've installed complete pack of Avast Software.
BTW, I've recently used Windows startup recovery tool. It worked for some time, after which I was informed about the tool's inability to solve the problem.
But after that, I got all Avast Software products removed and Microsoft Security Essentials installed again.
BSODs I recall are: BAD_POOL_HEADER and BAD_POOL_CALLER. There were other(s).
My hardware is: ASUS X52F Laptop
OS: Windows 7, 32-bit
At first, Windows Updates were off. I thought that maybe new version of Avast requires certain Windows Updates. I deleted Avast with your removal utility, after which I updated my Windows, checked it with Microsoft Security Essentials (some viruses were found and removed) and tried again. But same thing occurred.
Software installed is shown on pictures attached.

Without Avast Software, the laptop works fine as it always did.

After automatic update and first reboot. All of my Citrix/Terminal servers is "BLACK" at first logon.
Reboot the servers in SafeMode, and uninstalled Avast and server is working.

Hi,
I have just upgraded to Avast 17.2.2288 from the previous version and have found 3 problems in Bank Mode.
1/ The Bank Mode symbol in the top right hand corner never goes green.
Hovering over it with the mouse displays "Bank Mode is setting up".
2/ I use GMail.
When an email is open there is an icon in the top right corner which when hovered over displays "In New Window".
Clicking that used to open a new window inside Bank Mode but now opens a new window outside Bank Mode.
3/ The web page tabs cannot be manually dragged to a specific order along the top.
I'm running Windows 7

Hi, Yesterday I submitted a problem to Avast support we're seeing with this new version, but I just received a reply from Avast stating they could not verify I'm using a paid version and told me to go to FAQ's or the forum. Whether paid or not, this is a real problem.
I have 4 customers that have an issue logging into their bank site (www.tcfbank.com) . I have a computer with an older version of Avast, tested on the bank site and works fine, but then I upgraded to 17.2.2288 and checked again - now I can no longer log into the bank, so this is a verified problem with this version.
The bank website is www.tcfbank.com. Enter the user name and it won't progress to the next page for secret question or password, instead you get "page cannot be displayed" . Disable the Web shield and the bank site works fine. I found this problem in IE11, but may or may not happen in other browsers.

This update does not help with the hidden cancel scan button for smaller screen laptops!
Posting in multiple topics about the same issue doesn't help.
The GUI size is being addressed and that has been mentioned by avast in other posts.
The pause button still isn't present even in the latest avast version, it looks like this could be in the 17.3.xxxx.
that is it still hasn't been

You would like to hope if they are using the previous version they would have noticed the problem. Not to mention the current default action on Program Updates is for them to be Automatically installed.
If they don't have time to go searching through various threads, what makes you think they would search and find that one.

I did an over the top install/upgrade and then restored my settings.

FIXED
OK....so found fix......
My old (imported from previous configs) custom daily scan item would not run as scheduled.....it would manually run but not with scheduler.
I create d NEW custom scan with same config and would not run on a schedule either.
Did repair and reboot new scan runs.....old one still does not.
Deleting old one...renaming new one as my daily scan.

I am still waiting for some fixes:
- Boot speed is still very low, compared to the previous version.
- Also with GUI load speed. It is not smooth. Still a bit low. (see attached file).
- Access to Avast User Account.
- Could it be possible to reduce the size of the main UI window? My screen resolution is 1366x768, and the UI window looks too big in my opinion.
I still believe that with a few more fixes, this new release of Avast will be great!

I've seen this mentioned before, but I just want to add my voice to the fact that avast! really needs to do something about the size if the UI screen. I have a 20-inch widescreen monitor and the bottom of the UI screen is still cut off. Please make it smaller or resizable, something.

What other security software are you running ???
Clean Install of Avast:
https://goo.gl/4Ptzkf (https://goo.gl/4Ptzkf)
The clean install instructions were what I was doing, with the exception of disconnecting from the internet. I tried installing Avast with the internet disconnected. It would not install properly and experienced multiple errors, so you should remove that suggestion from your instructions. It turned out the problem all along was Avast was being partially blocked by the Software Restriction Policy, something that never happened before. The solution was to create a New Path Rule within the Software Restriction Policy which allowed Avast to run unrestricted.

The instructions ask you to disconnect from the INTERNET after you had downloaded the needed files.
Once downloaded, INTERNET isn't needed again till after removal and install of Avast. It's need when you're ready to register your new install.
Nothing wrong with the instructions. :)

After downloading the uninstall utility and Avast installation software, I followed your instructions and disconnected from the internet. I then ran the uninstall utility in Safe Mode, rebooted, and ran the Avast installation software, but it would not install properly, as per attached error message. A reboot did not help. I went through that whole process twice. So, I ran the uninstall utility in Safe Mode again, rebooted, and ran the Avast installation software again, but with the internet connected, and then the installation completed. Clearly, the software requires an internet connection to install properly. I have a network activity indicator installed in the notification area at the lower right corner of the screen and when the Avast installation software was running with the internet connected, I could see that something was making intermittent contact with the internet. Since nothing else was active, it had to be the Avast installation software.
-
The instructions at https://goo.gl/4Ptzkf don't explicitly mention using the offline version of the installation files, but I think that's probably what you need if you are disconnecting from the internet when the installation is being run. The offline versions are usually posted along with the "recommended" online versions on the 1st page of the version announcement (e.g., the first page of this topic). Can you confirm if you've used the offline installer?

My apologies, Avast made some changes and the download links originally listed went to the online installers.
That definitely will not work if you go off-line.
I've changed the links and re-directed them to the off-line installers.
The instructions will now work as written.
Thanks for pointing out the information. :)

I have always updated Avast through the internal update function built into the software, so I'm not used to doing it any other way. But, that was producing an updated version that did not work properly because of the later discovery that the Software Restriction Policy was unexpectedly partially blocking the proper function of Avast. So, I downloaded a fresh version from the Avast home page where it says Download Free Antivirus and downloaded the uninstaller from https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility). I was working off a printout of the instructions at https://goo.gl/4Ptzkf (https://goo.gl/4Ptzkf), so I didn't realize there were links built into the original document and didn't notice the links on the first page of the version announcement.

Well thanks to a Win10 update that reactivated WinBlows Defender Avast! stopped loading on start-up and trying to start Avast! anyother way got me no where, so I did a clean install of Avast! and yet still no Avast! in systems tray. Any help here would be great as its a pain to fire up Avast and then carry-on with my day.

Did repair and reboot new scan runs.....old one still does not.

UPDATE......thought I'd post for Avast Team to investigate or others that have this issue.
I changed the scheduler to another time....after it had been running from above.....and then it did not run.
I then went ahead and rebooted........and it then ran on the new schedule/time.
Since I saw a pattern I then tried again........an YES....every time I changed the scheduler to run at different time it no longer ran....even if changed back to original run/schedule time.
This behavior is consistent whether a "custom" scan or one of the Avast pre-defined....eg., FULL Scan
It appears it takes a reboot after a schedule/time change to "stick".
I have done a REPAIR but not clean un/re-install.....but I don't think that would have an impact on this.....seems like a bug in this version.
Anyway, thought I'd post. Last note....this was for "Daily" scan with all days of the week checked......I did not try any other variables (ie. Weekly, etc.).

If the Windows Task Scheduler is use, this makes sense since it needs a reboot to take effect.
-
I have a problem with this version.
The user interface screen doesn't fit on my small PC screen and it can´t be resized.

I have a problem with this version.
The user interface screen doesn't fit on my small PC screen and it can´t be resized.
Currently it can't be resized, but as has been mentioned they are working on that.
You don't say what your operating system is or the resolution of your small screen ?
If you have set the windows display size percentage % over 100% that could be the issue ?
The only thing missing on your screen is the Settings, right click on the avast tray icon and select About Avast, that actually takes you to settings.
-
If the Windows Task Scheduler is use, this makes sense since it needs a reboot to take effect.
That's an interesting point I did not think of.
I looked in the W7 scheduler of the PC and it has the Avast Emergency Update task...and under "Avast" only the config backup task.
I don't see a "Avast Scan" task.....like you would see with other 3rd party software....eg Macrium Reflect for backups.
I wonder if a software package can use the Windows Task Scheduler environment and not show ? ....I would image good safety thing so a Virus could not disable a scheduled antivirus scan.
The reboot fixes this problem but seems odd I am first or only one to mention this....I would think a lot of complaints if someone creates a scan schedule and it does not run.
I guess I could try to clean un/re-install but have not had the time.....regardless if this is "known" by Avast then they should tell you to reboot after a time/schedule change....or a bug then need to fix it.

I'm going to ask more directly: When shall we have a new release, with all of these issues (and others) fixed?
-
I won't complain too much about the boot speed. It could be a bit faster and on my Dell 8200 XP PRO SP3 sometimes Avast is the last thing to load in the Start Tray. But it still comes up fairly fast. Much quicker on my Toshiba Win 10 Home 64 Bit Laptop (but it has like 4GB RAM compared to 2GB in the Dell)

You may find if you get task manager up very quick, you will see that avastui.exe is running before you actually see the tray icon. Don't lose site of the fact that the avastui isn't security critical, unlike the avastsvc.exe.
-
Probably true, but when I boot up, I usually know how many items should be in the Task Tray .. on the Dell it is 9 .. on the laptop it is 11, but since that loads up quickly, I don't have to count them.

I have 8 on my XP Pro system and 5 of those I have hidden from view, so only 3 in sight Avast, Outpost (my firewall) and Win Patrol.
I have even less on my win10 home 64bit 2 on the tray if you exclude my battery indicator and but 7 hidden. Some of which I don't really need displayed at all my discrete GeForce graphics card (has 2) but I generally don't use that and just use the built in graphics of my CPU. My unified mouse and keyboard settings.
That however loads pretty quickly:
Acer Aspire F15 F5-573, Intel Core i5-7200U @2.50GHz to 3.1GHz, 8GB DDR4 RAM, GeForce GTX 950M 4GB DDR5, 256GB SSD primary drive 1TB HDD secondary drive.
Plus I generally don't shut that down too often, just let it go to sleep and takes seconds to wake up.

Hello everyone. I'm having a PAINFUL time just trying to register the free version (since my license expired). It asks what level and I say free then thinks for a bit and just does nothing.
I click register now (in settings/subscription) and it sits there for a bit and clocks then goes back to where it was.
I have a key i got but i have no way to insert it??
our license key is:
---------- Cut here ----------
C55990953H1200A0219-K0MJ8EYA
----------Cut here ----------
To insert your license key, please follow the instructions below:
1. Highlight the license key above, then right-click it and select "Copy".
2. Open your Avast Free Antivirus controls and select the "Settings" tab.
3. Next, click the "Registration" tab.
4. Click the arrow next to "Offline registration" to expand this option.
5. Click the "Insert the license key" button.
6. Right-click in the empty Registration box and select "Paste".
7. Click "OK" – your license key is now inserted and your Avast antivirus software can now be used free of charge for a further 12 months.
There is no registration tab.
This is for windows 10.
Any help before i remove it for something else?
-
There is no registration tab.
What version of Avast are you using?
If there is no registration tab but "Subscription" tab, then you are using Paid version (probably trial) instead of Free.
If that is the case, you have to uninstall current version and install Free version again.
-
Thanks. I installed the free version. How the paid version got installed is beyond me.
Can i get a link to the uninstaller or can i let windows uninstall it>?

After Avast last upgrade, I found that if the host OS Win7Pro Avast free anti virus "enable hardware-assisted virtualization" option is enabled (default), my Windows XP virtual machine guest OS cpus are at 100% all the time, making it useless. Disabling the "hardware assisted virtualization" option restores the virtual machine functionality (requires rebooting).
The host OS is not affected at all.
I didn't notice any problem running a virtual machine with guest OS Window 7 Pro.
Notice that the referred antivirus the the one installed in the host machine, not in the guest.

Would someone explain exactly what that "enable hardware assisted virtualization" does when the option is Checked in Avast Free ? ? Is it needed ? ? What happens if it is unselected ? ? Will it work on a system with a P4 CPU ? ?

I am close to giving up on avast. On the subscription screen (or I click activate) it asks me to select free or the premium and I select free. Then takes me to a thanks for choosing avast free and instead of start free trial i click no thanks. Why can't i extend the license for a year? It only does 1 month?
If I click register now on the sub screen, it does the same thing. Is this a bug? won't let me input the email address to extend it for a year. Super annoying. I've had this happen on 2 windows 10 machines now.

Updated from Avast! 2280 to 2288 from within the GUI and had no issues.
Like the new animated amoeba for the tray icon as well as the more subdued interface color scheme.
but...
first off please don't replace my more up to date (12.0.199) Avast! Internet Security Google Chrome browser add-on with the BETA version of the same add-on (12.0.197). Bit annoying having to remove the BETA version and reinstalling the version I already had from the Chrome Web Store.
Second while I like the more customizable nature of this new "Game Mode", I'd like to remind the Avast! team that they're, at least in my eyes, an Antivirus and not some tool to magically make my system run better. Having the options of messing with my power plan, process affinity, windows updates, and windows notifications automatically set to enabled was extremely annoying. But, thanks to this new interface, is at least very easy to manage.
Also the context menu icon for scans is still the older Avast! yellow. Not sure if that has been missed but thought I would point that out.
Keep up the good work. =D

What has happened to the screensaver scan since the update, it gone, or doesn't work, thought that was a good idea the check your pc when idol?

Hi Ned, it has been removed a while ago.

It was removed, I don't know why some preferred it to scheduled scans.

Hello Guys It has been a while since I have been here.
I have a question about using Avast for multiple computers. I have seven computers that I have Avast on, and I would like someone to tell someone in charge that when you send an email about subscription being up for renewal, could you please put the name of the computer so I can tell and or keep track of which computer is being renewed.
I have had several sold computers that they renewed after I sold the computer and it takes me six months to figure out what is going on.

Yes, still no ability to pause scans, and when I post in forums, some just say work around it. Avast advertises that they don't do this for awards. That's just another way of saying that we don't listen to our customers. We do it for money. I keep getting Ads to put Avast on my tablet, smartphone, and other mobile devices. I don't have any mobile devices. In addition, sometimes when I go to do a Quick scan, my scans are gone except for Full Scan and the on-demand scanner for downloaded files. I have to tell it to create a new scan. Then they reappear, after I've created the new scan, the quick scans will reappear. If I accidentally click the tiny delete button on a scan instead of settings, I have to create the deleted scan manually. Apparently, there is no way to recover the scan I just deleted without doing a repair on Avast. Apparently Avast cannot just send the deleted scan to my recycle bin, where I could easily recover and just click restore file. I think it's time for me, my friends, and my colleagues to find a new Antivirus. We're tired of control being taken away from us. It's why we moved away from Microsoft stuff, the Chrome Browser, Adobe PDF, etc. When companies decide it's their way or the highway, it's time to hit the road. . . .

There is a new beta released https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=198924.0 (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=198924.0), for those who accept the risk in beta testing and see if any you had is resolved.

I had to uninstall Avast after this update. I thought it was the Windows updates pushed this week so I did an image restore to mid February and with the Windows updates gone I seemed fine. The first thing I did was update Avast, and it broke me again - no applications or system processes (Task Manager, Settings) would start, they all produced error 0xc0000005. I could only uninstall Avast using Programs and Features if I disabled it, and then I ran AvastClean in safe mode, and now I seem to be running fine. I have no idea what that was about - I was surely protected against viruses if I couldn't run anything! I run Windows 10. I've used Avast a long time but I can't have my PC just being a paperweight so I had to say goodbye to it. I have no idea why this happened.

From looking at the forum, there are other reports of the same error code.
You may need to wait for Avast to fix that problem if it turns out to be their problem.
The 0xc0000005 error code has been reported to Avast.

Good morning, someone with rebooting machines alone today because of Avast? When they uninstall it, they stop rebooting, and I think it has to do with an update that was released this morning.

For the future:
Is deactivating automatic virus definition updates, testing it locally by myself and aftwards mass-updating via web console if okay?
Is this the really the only way to not get stalled by AVAST in case of QA failure?
I really don't want to endanger the Business Continuity in my organization.

A point to note Disabling Auto Virus Definition Updates on the VPS also disables the streaming updates.
You have posted in the Avast Free Antivirus / Pro Antivirus / Internet Security/ Premier forum, if you are using an avast for business product (I don't know if they get streaming updates or not), you might want to ask this question in the avast for business https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=77.0 (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=77.0) forums.

Avast just killed off my PC windows 7 32 bit. Blue screen flashes up breifly (too fast to read) then restarts back to initial boot screen. Ran start up repair numerous times and can not fix this. I know it's definately Avast because I uninstalled it when it first happened and problem stopped, reinstalled and my system flopped again. Only now I cannot log in to Windows at all any ideas on remedy anyone! Don't want to wipe comp as I'll loose over 100gig of my music production stuff I was backing up.

Run safe mode with network and download the offline virus definition updater (vpsupd.exe) from https://www.avast.com/download-update (https://www.avast.com/download-update) and execute it to apply the virus definition update. It should fix.
Or get into safe mode then remove avast and back to normal mode and reinstall it from here:

Hey guys,
Since the new update, when using the safe zone browser in bank mode, some of my web links automatically disable the bank mode (that never happened before) and even worse, some of my webpage links open a new window on my normal desktop (not safe at all)!! Let's say I open my bank's web page in bank mode and click on the online banking link, nothing happens on the safe zone browser but when I close the browser and return to my normal desktop, the pop-up window from my online banking login page is now displayed on my desktop - that certainly never happened before the update - can you fix that? - can't use the safe zone browser like that..
Cheers

Sorry I am new to the forum and am unsure if this is the correct place to post this.
I have a system on Windows 7 64 bit, avast is showing as unprotected currently and when trying to load the interface it displays that the Avast service is unresponsive and to restart it. Upon clicking restart I get the same message.
If i exit avast entirely and go to service management I can start the service but it crashes when i try open the GUI to enable the shields.
I have tried repairing avast and a clean install. Also, I have tried an offline installer for previous version of avast 12.X. This works until I have to restart the system to finish the install which then pulls in the new update and UI on reboot and brings back the problem.

Hi Asyn, Or Anyone else that Shed Light on this
I have two pc's one is where i do all my main stuff, game, emails, shop ect.... the other is for downloading ect....
The Pc that i use for downloading got infected with SupportScam: JS/TechBrolo.F I recieved a fake pop up a few days back./ But I ran avast full scan, boot up scan, quick scan C drive scan and nothing was detected. Soon as i uninstall avast antivirus Windows defender kicks in does a scan and finds the virus and and puts it its virus vault. I want to know why Avast didnt detect the virus and also Avast has a live scanner which scans online so it should have detected the virus before it even entered my system I want to know why this is? Why didnt avast detect this virus.
Thank you
EDIT: I think I know why your antivirus didn't detect the virus: https://www.avast.com/virus-update-history
Your latest virus update history does not contain the virus information within you definitions whereas Windows Defender does. My Next question is this form of virus is very easy to get on someones system. Why haven't you added this to you virus definition list. I was just browsing the net saw a java enabled site and didn't even know that was on other system. If it wasn't windows defender I would never have knew. As a request please update your definitions to contain this virus information before others get infected. And if they do your antivirus will just sit there smiling like its nothing.

It is dangerous according to Microsoft database definitions it can lock ur files, demand money, and delete your files and cause all sorts of issues and start deleting registry files. The reason why AVAST didnt detect this is because its not recorded in ur virus database definitions. Someone of your position to be saying "JS/TechBrolo.F is just a FakeAlert popup so not dangerous for your machine" is a understatement Avast should be able to detect these as they are a form of trojens. Buy saying what you did puts me to shame of using avast for over 3 years. I and many others would not want a trojen like this on our system at all by what you said has really shown me avast does not care.
The reason why avast didnt detect this is because your virus database has no record of this virus: https://www.avast.com/virus-update-history
Buy what you said "so not dangerous for your machine", there are many here that rely on ur antivirus product and pay for it. Many which are elders or those that do no know IT as much as others. If this got on there pc and had they disabled windows defender in favour of avast they would believe its a legitimate pop up within there system and pay for what ever it says on there screen and get scammed and lose all there documents and have a destroyed machine.
When i got this on my other machine it was a windows security box asking me for my username and password. It looked like a windows 10 security box. This is a dangerous virus and avast should add the file definitions to there database to protect others.
-

Don't be ashamed because of me, i dont work for avast ;)
The reason why avast didnt detect this is because your virus database has no record of this virus: https://www.avast.com/virus-update-history
That is correct, as i said NO security program have 100% detection
And you will not find that name listed there, as Microsoft and avast does not use same malware names
This is what they try to detect evry day but it is not possible
Statistic >> https://www.av-test.org/en/statistics/malware/
Avast should be able to detect these as they are a form of trojens
yes, i did not say they should not

After updating to the latest version of free avast antivirus i have problems with radmin connection to my pc. Connection freezes and desktop is blank or not loading. File transfer works ok, so this is not firewall problem.
Seems avast block radmin display driver or something like that.
Checked for 5 PC's - the same problem at every pc.. After disabling antivirus protection - remote control is ok.
Please check that problem and make update.
OS: Windows 7 x64

This is not a virus but a detection of the script on the fake scam page.So once you close the browser and flush the browser temp its should be all gone.Yes point taken it should be detected but as pondus said no AV has 100% detection so if you want avast to detect it submit it to them from submit@virus.avast.com and you can even scan the URL here:
