Title: absolutely underwhelmed by avast internet security
Post by: REDACTED on March 10, 2017, 02:33:57 AM
so yeah, 2 days ago, my computer started screaming at me DINGDINGDING THREAT HAS BEEN DETECTED!DINGDINGDING THREAT HAS BEEN DETECTED!DINGDINGDING THREAT HAS BEEN DETECTED!DINGDINGDING THREAT HAS BEEN DETECTED!. i go into the program, run the scan, it prompts me to buy extra extenstions. YOU NEED PASSWORD PROTECTION FOR ONLY AN EXTRA 9.99$! and then an hour later, even with having downloaded nothing (this is a gaming computer. i only download warcraft and nvidia related stuff) the alarm goes off again. there is no way to empty the virus vault, no apparent way to stop this alert from going again and again, and comically, no apparent way to stop new virused from just randomly popping onto my system. when i call customer service for a walkthrough on how to fix it, "oh...they outsource their customer service to the philippines. fantastic." and then they want remote access to my pc. ummm...no? and then they say they NEED remote access to fix whatever problem with the possibility of extra fees. this is a crap product. with crap customer service. i will be cancelling my subscription as soon as i find a decent replacement.

You can disable the promotional ads in the paid versions.

YOU NEED PASSWORD PROTECTION FOR ONLY AN EXTRA 9.99$!
It is free in every (home) version of avast.

there is no way to empty the virus vault
There is no need to.
avast keeps a copy of the files in the chest, just in case they are needed (again)

Yes there is.
It is called gaming/silent mode.
Next to that, you can disable the sounds.

About the phone support, it is clearly stated at the avast website that only the diagnostic is free.

For free help, use the ticket system or this webboard.

And ofcourse they want/need access to your system.
Try to repair a car that is miles away from you ;)
