Title: Unable to use Avast Password with Chrome browser
Post by: REDACTED on March 11, 2017, 03:29:02 AM
Hello,

I am running Windows 10.

When I start Chrome the Avast Password key icon is black. Clicking on it it says the extension is not activated. I went into Chrome's extensions and it shows Avast password as enabled.

I have gone into the Control panel an repaired Avast Internet Security (there was no separate programme for Avast password) and then rebooted. I have also gone in Avast settings => passwords where it shows the Browser extension for Chrome as not installed. I clicked on the "install" link but nothing happens.

Please could you help me to get this working. I have Avast passwords installed on my Desktop (Windows 7) using Chrome and it works fine. However, it doesn't seem to work on Chrome in Windows 10.

Thanks

Hi,

you need to start Avast, go to Settings to the section Passwords and there you will find a browser section. Here you need to click on "Install" besides the Chrome browser icon.

Let me know if that helped.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

However, when I go into Settings=>Passwords=>Browser section I also have no Browser displayed. The areas on the screen in the Browser Integration section is blank.

Is there a help line I can call?

Thanks

Try the following:

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

Repair or re-install of avast won't help here!
But re-install of chrome browser could fix the issue.

For some reason we didn't detect that user is having chrome browser installed. We are using registry entries to detect which browsers is installed. Primarily we use a key Microsoft recommends to use to all browser vendors (chrome normally writes to this key) + we use one very specific key for chrome we know some chrome installations have created. Seems to me that @HM2406 is another exception from those rules.

Dear Avast Team

I am having the same problem. It seems like since the new program update happend, avast can not connect my avast account and this is why can ot use my passwords. In the new program window there is no possibility to sign in to avast acccount which could solve the problem. The others may have the same problems.

Are you using the latest version ???
You can also go to your my.avast.com account and sign in to your account that way.

I think this might solve the reason I cannot see Chrome as an installed browser so I can use password locker. I am reluctant to uninstall chrome as I have a lot of extensions and personalisations and would hate to lose them all. Is there some other way that the registry key can be updated without a uninstall/reinstall? I hope so as I very much like the look of password locker but I do not want to change browser.

Hoping someone can suggest a fix  ;D

You don't loose any of that by re-installing Chrome. Your settings ,extensions etc are synced to your user name, Once you sign in to your Google account, all your settings, extensions, etc are restored.
