Avast periodically creates a virus recovery database (VRDB) instead of a emergency disk.  You should create a Windows emergency bootable floppy though.  Refer to the Help Files on how the VRDB works.  Also, do a search in this forum for "VRDB" and "Virus Recovery Database."

Another option is making a bootable floppy or CD and run applications for DOS:
avast 7.7 DOS version (http://www.avast.com/files/eng/avast77e.zip) Key: AS770.A123456-24DB67 and Updates (http://www.asw.cz/i_idt_249.html) or here (http://www.avast.com/files/latest/lguard.zip)

or

F-Prot for DOS (http://www.f-secure.com/download-purchase/tools.shtml) and Updates (http://www.f-secure.com/download-purchase/dos_updates.shtml)
BitDefender Free Edition for DOS (http://www.bitdefender.com)

For other boot tools see the section CD Boot here (http://www.avast.com/forum/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=1509;start=0).  ;)

avast! in a bootable CD is available at BART CD page (http://www.avast.com/i_idt_154.html).
