Avast note
Hi everyone,
This was a false positive that was live for around 30 40 min, between 5:15 5:20am and 5:45 6:00am CET (GMT +1). We just disabled it and pushed the fix through streaming updates.
Important: If you still have the problem please restart your PC.

So our computers are getting spammed to annihilation we use gmail for work email and everytime someone uses it, it spams us with Malware notifications detected at https://play.google.com/ :o
EDIT: Also worth noting it's not just Avast Business, my home computers which run Avast Pro and Internet Security are also going crazy, a new notification every 60 seconds.
-
Thank god it's not just me. Good that you pointed out it was Gmail too, I have too many tabs open to figure out which one was causing Avast to freak out.
-
Yes, we're seeing the same here. It's also triggering while users are typing in the URL bar (for autocomplete or search).
-
Its funny because this detection update prevents android phones from receiving software updates completely.
-
Oops! Same here!!!
Another mess up like this one https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=197572.0 >:( >:(

Yep, getting this here too. Another false alarm, I'm guessing?
-
Can confirm, this also happens to me. I have the latest definitions.
-
well at least I know its not just me. what the fezz avast? I even added exclusions FOR chrome and you're still pegging a false positive?
-
I'm getting it often too. I submitted it as a false positive but I don't have a clue. I'm guessing it really is false.

I do anything on Chrome and I get this pop-up...even coming to this site. -sigh- This is the second time this hand happened to me after an update.
-
I have it in spades. Is this just a false positive or is there something that got into google. It first showed up for me after I received a message of from Avast that it had updated my settings for today. It is going crazy while I try to use Chrome Dev Tools. I am on a Mac Book Pro
-
Hi there,
we are investigating this right now, will give you an update asap
-
I also just started getting the same issue around 30 minutes ago, it was working fine before that. Do we know what the issue is?
-
same situation, another Definition false positive , this is the second type of global false positive in a few months , alot of people use GMAIL web client and if it sees play as a issue than there is a big problem
-
The same here!!!
-
ok, I'm getting this on both chrome and firefox. what gives avast...
-
Any news from avast on a temporary fix for this or when an update may initiate? I get this with every new term searched within google as well as anytime I visit my email..For whatever reason this is also happening in firefox so no luck between chrome or firefox on a temporary resolution.
-
Signed up just so I can post that I'm witnessing more or less the same thing. Very annoying! Any chance on a fast fix?
-
Hi everyone,

You should stop getting the false alerts within few minutes.
-
This seems like a very obvious FP. Google & Google Play are safe sites, and there's no reported hacks or attacks going on against them. The affected url seems to be google play, which somehow seems to be twined to all other google services and ergo inescapable. I would prefer not to see this on nearly every google login page I'm on, the ringing sound is incredibly annoying.
Moreover, the Avast online security plugin is also claiming that the Google Play store is unsafe. I've used this AV for years and this kind of issue, especially with a major site like google, has never happened to me before.
I don't know what's going on, but it's bothering me, and I'm pretty sure it's a FP.
EDIT: thank you all for being so quick to try and correct the error, hopefully after the 30 min threshold it stays fixed
-
thank you very much for fixing the problem so swiftly!
it was really quite annoying being spammed every time I opened a new tab, clicked my URL bar, etc.
-
Yup it's either a false positive, or there is a mayor hack going against the playstore.
-
havent seen a resolution on that yet. will give it til the morning. I'm going to bed. had enough internet shenanigans for one day.
-
I'm still getting threat's blocked, hopefully this is fixed soon.
-
So I think I have the streamed update but the issue is still there

The funny part is that at the bottom of the page there's an ad "Avast recommends using
the FREE Chrome™ internet browser." haha.
-
I'm still getting this false positive whenever I google something. I'm relieved that I'm not the only one experiencing this, and that it doesn't seem like something I should be too concerned about. The popup is annoying however.
A fix would be much appreciated.
-
Did an update, then a restart and it seems all is well now.
-
Same here. I was even getting it in Outlook when it pulled in my email from Gmail. Seems to be fixed now.
-
Everything seems to be fine on my end now.
Thank you for the quick fix :)
-
Fucking great.
They claim protecting us from phishing and yet again put in a false alert looping and suggesting, there is something wrong. Hence, payed antivirus protection program is purchased from them. You tick the alarm, and it pops up every 10 to 30 seconds time and time again. Check the guarantine list being empty, but then another note is shown for additional purchases, not fixing the shit.
Thanks Avast for sucking up my money for something, not necessary for my needs... Perfect policy making money.
The verification is too complicated. Not really visible, what alphabets are actively shown. absolutely fantastic. Requesting new image does not help either.

Strangely I didn't experience this at all today until this evening, when I experienced it starting about 9:30PM PDT. It continued for about 45 minutes. I'm using Avast Mac Security, virus defs are 17032001. I don't think the end of the play.google.com FP warnings corresponded to a virus def update, but I could have just missed it.
