Title: AVAST sign email by default
Post by: REDACTED on April 24, 2017, 06:37:06 PM
Why sign email by default? no request when install (same as share data? just read text to say AVAST share data and can disable in settings)
And when use Gmail, not see signature before mail sent or return.  It is a security problem to inform by email that we use AVAST.

Email has been signed for many years, this hasn't changed through many avast versions, but now it is easier to disable it.#
#
AvastUI > Settings > General > uncheck the "Enable Avast email signature" option.

I don't see how an avast signature would be a security problem. A user knowing your antivirus version doesn't necessarily make you any less secure, after all they already have your email address.

I know it's not new; but for me it's a new install, and think it's a setting must set when install.. It's more important than install AVAST on all android device with just too fast clic (now not use my google account with avast to prevent this).

It's less secure, because know what avast will not detect.
Never see enterprise sign email with antivirus used; just see sign for incoming email.

1. this is the windows Avast Free Antivirus / Pro Antivirus / Internet Security/ Premier sub-forum so I'm not sure what this has to do with android devices and AMS ?

2. How is it less secure, your topic is about 'AVAST sign email by default' ?
If you are saying that makes it less secure, how can it do that (as I mentioned in my last post). OK even if they know what AV you are using they haven't got your IP address for any direct attack.

All they have is your email address and you gave them that and they still have to get any payload on that email past your defences, not to mention common sense on any unsolicited email, etc.

1. Avast Free antivirus. no relation with Android, just say I think option to sign or not email is more important than the advertising to install in one click (in default position) AVAST on all the devices linked to its google account (if authentication with Google).  Sorry for my very bad English

2.just with one url in the email, a word document attached, jpg,gif..., it's easy to test if AVAST detect it or not before sent.  I do not know all the possible loopholes.
It's just a review..

This option remains active when import previous setting (sign disabled).
And why this option is not related to AgentMail (not installed) because Gmail already scan my email.

These settings aren't dependant on what email client you use or if you even have one installed, avast doesn't check if you have an email client.

The main UI > Settings > General - Enable Avast email signature also caters for web mail

On a note :

There where two different settings for it.
One for email clients and one for webmail.

I think the one setting as it is now, is much more clear/convenient for users.
If avast is gonna ask during installation if you want it or not is kinda useless.
If avast starts doing that, let's also ask things like :
Do you want to install the webshield, the fileshield etc.
Do you want hardened mode enabled ?
If yes, at what level do you want it to run.

Installation would become a "endless survey" and the people do not understand the questions.

On the contrary, very useful, it will avoid sending emails with an AVAST signature without knowing it and without seeing it!
Currently the option is active by default; Useless if deactivated by default.
In addition, the option is not preserved when exporting / importing the AVAST config.

If avast starts doing that, let's also ask things like :
Do you want to install the webshield, the fileshield etc.
already exist, and fortunately, I use minimal installation and add only suspect action agent, with file and web.
If I had to install everything, I would have already abandoned AVAST.

Installation would become a "endless survey" and the people do not understand the questions.
Just use default or personalized installation..
If it's too complicated, there is the built-in on windows.
