Just for your curiosity... avast! 4.7 is on the way...
In a few weeks (two to four) we'll have avast 4.7.
The translators have already received the codes to procede.
So, besides internal changes that were the focus of this update, we'll have - among others - some new features that, if Igor forgive me, I'll post here for the first time. I have no more details, just for your curiosity.
1. The program will now Ask before deleting files from Chest as a lot of us posted in the wishlist.
Edited according to Igor's explanation above:
2. There will be a GUI improvement showing the license type: EDUCATIONAL, GOVERNMENT, HEALTHCARE INSTITUTION and NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION.
3. The resident program will now Scan dynamic libraries on load (Windows XP+ only) besides the other well-known options (32-bit/64-bit Windows (Win32/Win64) executables, 16-bit Windows executables and MS-DOS based programs).
Well, this is all folks... at least, what the translators could see in the new code...
-
Hmm... Does this mean that avast! will start early enough to catch those pesky process injecting Trojans before they load their dll's? Does this mean we won't have to tell users to get Ewido if they want to deal with malware that injects a dll?
That would certainly be a boost for avast! ;D
-
I'd like to comment the 2nd point - I don't think there will be any change in avast! licensing. There already are discounts for educational organizations, etc. - if you check the "Price calculator" on our web pages, you'll see the corresponding option.
I don't know where these new texts will be used, but my guess is that they're just for the About box to show what kind of license is currently in use (i.e. just a tiny GUI improvement, nothing more).

I think it won't be this time yet...
avast 4.7 will be just minor improvements on features themselves but scanning should be faster and more reliable 8)

Cool beans! :D ;D

Great! When you combine avast! with Opera you won't have to worry about viruses ever again. Especially the new 9.0 version! ;D http://labs.opera.com/
-
I know your mad keen on Opera, but we try to keep the avatars close to 100 X 100 for those with low resolution monitors or systems.
-
Great news ;D

Good look'n out! :D I new it was too big but I didn't know how to make the resolution smaller. Thanks.

Do a google search for ... image resizer ... OR ... picture resizer ... and you should get many hits. A couple of free ones are IRfanViewer(sp) and Mihov's Image Resizer. Both are relatively easy to use.

Is there any final release date as of yet?
-
Avast 4.7 is scheduled to be released approx April 15. We'll have a short "beta" (exclusive for forum users) about a week before that - e.g. in about a week.
BTW let me just say that the number of changes substantially exceeds the list given by Tech ;) :-*
Also, there'll likely be another update around May 5th, making avast (finally) fully compatible with Windows Vista (Beta 2 of Vista should be released at this time). Between April 21 and 30, we'll be in Redmond fixing all the issues...
Cheers
Vlk

Can't wait to take avast! 4.7 beta on a test drive ;D

Waiting the beta 8)
-
Please don't rush ALWIL to release the beta.
I haven't yet received any files from ALWIL for the translation. :(
If any other person is translating it, I'm OK.
I don't care. :P
-

Igor, why doesn't Iso-G receive the files?
-
does anybody notice my short translation? :

Iso-G, thanks for your interest. Starting with Nov 2005, we employed a Japanese lady (she works full time for us, as a sales and technical support) and she's also responsible for Japanese translations.
I hope you don't mind - I mean, we're very grateful for everything you've done for avast (and the Japanese community around it).
Maybe you can get in touch with Sayaka (that's her name) and share some knowledge? She's a very nice young lady although she's married :P
BTW the same applies for Italian, Spanish, German, French and Chinese - we now employ native speakers in all those languages.... Our team is growing fast. :)
Cheers

Me too!

I have a question, in the future will you have to upgrade to the latest version of Windows to be able to use all the features of avast! like Boot Time Scanning?
-
Can't wait to take avast! 4.7 beta on a test drive ;D
Me too!
Damn, it will be the longest week ever waiting for brand new BETA ;D
-
zivilist: Thanks for your effort. The translation of the help file to German is planned, but it didn't start yet, so it'll probably take quite some time. The pages you provided are quite important though, so I'll try to include them. Thanks!
Iso-G: I'm trying to use "indoor resources" where possible because it's their job and they're paid for that :)
If you want to go on with participating on the translation, however, just let me know - I'll be happy to send you the package, either for translation or checking/corrections - whatever you feel like.
justin1278: Right now, I don't know about any plans to drop support for older OS. The boot-time scanner works on all NT-based platforms, so I don't think we're going to remove it.
-
I think he meant if you'll impliment new features limited to Vista OS only (like some features are currently limited only to NT systems).
-
The boot-time scanner works on all NT-based platforms
Vista seems to have a different 'boot' time behavior like RejZor said.
Is it related to 64bits plataform?
-
Yes RejZor that is exzackaly what I ment I just used Boot Time scanning as an example.
-
As far as I know, there's no difference in Vista regarding the boot time scan. Or more precisely, since I don't know much about Vista: I know we fixed a tiny problem in 4.6.731 (November 2005) and the boot-time scanner subsequently worked as expected in Vista, without any changes in the boot-time scanner code (and the problem fixed was actually a very questionable call in avast!, which previous OSes accepted without problems, but Vista denied; nothing really significant).
-
Ok so XP will get all of the features of avast! that Vista will have?
-
Under the hood, Vista (espcially 64-bit) requires many code changes. However, we're trying to hide these technical details and make it completely transparent, i.e. keeping the feature set identical.
For new products, we'll probably stick with support for Win2K and later though... Win9x seems to be too much pain in the a..... - and it user base is constantly narrowing...
Thanks
Vlk
-
Ok thanks for the info Vlk. :)
-
This icon of avast that it appears in the celebrate of 15 years is very legal, therefore it has transparency effect.
It would be legal if the icon of desktop was thus in version 4.7.
Thank you.
-
can't wait to see the beta, I'll watch to see if & when it's available...

Hello,
Thank you for the reply, Vlk.
I'm happy if Sayaka sometimes visits my web to know local users' wishes.
Most of home users don't speak English well.
And Pro Ed users may be received technical supports by resellers, but Home users not.
So local home users on my web probably want her technical supports, even if she was so old. ;)
PS
JP version hasn't yet had voice data.
If avast! sound files in Japanese would be created with her voice, local users may be happy. ;D

@ Vlk or Igor
Without spoiling the more detailed release annoucement for the upcoming avast! 4.7, I have one very simple question that I am anxiously hoping that you can answer for me...
Will avast! 4.7 have much difference with the GUI? Or will it look very similar to 4.6?
Much appreciated,
Dave
-
It will look the same as avast! 4.6.
-
Ad GUI changes: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=15858.msg134546#msg134546
-
Well you'll have to change basic skin because it has v4.6 written on it :P
-
Vlk, I have read that you have a new Spanish translator. The new registration webpage of avast! Home in Spanish is translated very badly, with a lot of grammatical failures. I hope that the Spanish translations of new versions of avast! will have the same quality that when Lázaro was making it.
-
Juanjo,
good point, thanks for pointing this out. I didn't know that, and I'm sure Christian will be able to fix this easily...
Cheers

-
There is usually a notification on the forums about the beta when released and instructions on how to be a part of it. Obvious warnings on using beta software on a system you use as your primary/only system.
-
Hello! I have a question regarding this new version. you said it will be released soon. But will Avast ask to update the 4.6 version to the 4.7 version? When I installed the first 4.6 version and the 4.6.763 version was released Avast automatically updated to this version. Will it happen the same with the 4.7? I'm always wary of new versions. i prefere to wait and see if they can give problems so I wait before installing them. Thanks.
-
By default avast! asks you to install the update. But you obviously changed this in settings.

WOW! thanks for the quick answer. I've found out how to change the automatic update of the software. thanks!

Right click the 'a' blue icon, choose Program settings.
On Update (Basic) tab of settings, choose program uptades to 'ask' or 'manual' 8)
Keep tuned in forums to update your avast program late :)
-
avast! 4.7 beta will be available at the end of this week as Vlk mentioned in some other thread. Stay tunned :)
-
In this version 4.7 it could come as new appearance of the windows of notification of update.
Thank you.
-
I don't think they plan on changing the (blue) update notification yet.

Any chance to see 4.7 beta tommorow? Or is it still not ready for beta testing?
-
***
I guess it's obvious that we want to test the new beta. ;)
Poor avast team ... we pressure them so much but it's just that we want our beloved anti-virus program to be even better than it already is. ;D

As Vlk said at the end of the week, could be Friday, Saturday, or even Sunday (hopefully tomorrow)
-
So now we hope for saturday lol ;D
-
It's Saturday in Austrailia, perhaps Sunday ;D
-
Well its still Friday you never know maybe they will release it in an hour.
-

No they won't... the translations are not finished. Generally we 'know' the release is iminent when the tranlators (most of them) are ready.
Maybe some more days 8)
-
Why exactly do you think the translations are not done? (btw, a few missing translations are probably not a reason to delay the release significantly, let alone the beta).
OK, to clear things up: the beta should be released on Sunday (don't know when exactly, probably when Vlk wakes up ;)).
-
I wonder if 4.7 will bring any big suprises!
-
Hi all....
Perhaps this version won't hog the entire dial-up connection for Windows 98 users when updating ;D Although I don't notice this with XP.
-

I know because I did not finished mine... you're with the Passolo file...
For sure the two things are not deeply related. I know that. Just that, generally I've posted first...
-
Well Igor said we would see it Sunday and I look forward to it.
-
Can't wait for something new.

who's EXCITED!?
me! me!

So, tommorow ;D You guys sure work hard. I mean sunday beta release... :D

Still Saturday here

Beatifull Sunday morning... I think I'll be logged in all day... ;D I need to find out where avast beta is hidden ;)
-
When does Vlk usually get up at sundays? ;D
-
From the pictures we've seen Vlk has a home life as well as trying to keep all of us happy.
So ... on a Sunday morning let us give him time for his ... um ... er ... family duties (you know I mean attending church - if you didn't shame on you).

Wake up Vlk! Wake up Vlk! Wake up Vlk!
FREE COFFEE...

Hello !!!!
It's almost noon, where is the BETA :( :(
Don't forget this is a beta release, which is released to increase the beta exposure to the many different OSes and system configurations that users have and this can and occasionally does find flaws.
You should only use beta software if you are prepared to accept that potential risk, more so when the beta software is for system security. If not let the other guinea pigs find any issues and wait the hopefully short time to the regular release.
