Title: Avast and Opera
Post by: REDACTED on May 06, 2017, 06:58:54 PM
I am having a problem using Opera; mainly the VPN built in to Opera.  I never did this before, but id there a way to tell Avast to not block anything remotely associated with Opera?

What is happening is that when I launch Opera the VPN feature tries to connect to the last country I selected.  It just sits there trying to connect and at the same time I cannot select another country.  But if I turn off all the security features and relaunch Opera then it works fine.  I can select other countries and the connection is pretty instant.

So I just want to add Opera to a "do not block nothing to this program and it's other files as well" sort of scheme.

Update: forgot.  Using Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit.  Using Avast free version 17.4.2294

I've had issues with Opera VPN not connecting when the browser was first opened.  As their service is gotten from SurfEasy Inc., your issues with connectivity would require support from either Opera or SurfEasy, or both, to resolve.

As the service is touted as being free, the only real support for your vpn issue would be from Opera.

Something to consider about Opera's version of VPN service:  http://www.smh.com.au/technology/gadgets-on-the-go/opera-browsers-free-builtin-vpn-vulnerable-to-major-security-flaw-20160422-gocmmo.html (http://www.smh.com.au/technology/gadgets-on-the-go/opera-browsers-free-builtin-vpn-vulnerable-to-major-security-flaw-20160422-gocmmo.html)

[EDIT:]  If you've got nested virtualization option available, turn it on and reboot:  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=201797.0 (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=201797.0)  Appears here that issue affects some or all Chrome browsers.

Seeing as Avast is doing the blocking and the SufEasy VPN works fine if Avast is not loaded (or if the WebShield is turned off) then the only solution would have to come from Avast.  After all, Avast is causing the problem!

Some people will go to great lengths to deflect and defend the indefensible.

This should fix your problem with Oper's free VPN.

Well, I'm using Opera and their VPN did have serious issues few weeks ago with exact symptoms you've described. I mean, it worked fine even with avast! enabled for me for the most part so I don't think it's avast! related.
