I think he is saying that Avast needs a password for anything.
Smart scan operation: need a password
Performance upgrade: need a password
Generally anything on his Avast right now: needs a password.

If I understand, that is the problem.  I think it is usually the master password for avast passwords.  Can you show a pix?  Does it say "Master Password."  I need that to get into my password database on Avast.

Thnx

You could also check this:
Avast > Settings > General > Passwords

There is a box there that says Protect avast with a password.  If you can get to it, that may be the source of your problem.  If you can't shut it down, make a password you can remember.  You can also control what parts are protected by your password.
Hope it helps.

Let's just wait till the OP tells more.

You could also check this:
Avast > Settings > General > Passwords
<snip>

Have you thought that the OP can't do this, as he has stated "avast wants password to go into settings"
