Title: Cleanup doesn't work !
Post by: REDACTED on June 27, 2017, 05:22:26 PM
I bought Avast Premier last year.
The Performance Cleanup I bought never worked.
See picture:

The screenshot says it all.
Why has Avast never contacted me about this like they said they would.
I'm not very happy about this situation.  :'(

Do you have a subscription for CleanUp ?
If not, don't be surprised that it doesn't work.

Hi, see: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB268#idt_050

Thanks.
I read it.
This problem has been going on for a very long time.

Avast should extend the subscription time for all users free. :)
I think a full year free from the date it gets fixed would be nice.

You're welcome.

PS: New version is in beta, see: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=204702.0

I'll look at it.
I just made a new Macrium Reflect system image today.
If this beta screws things up I can revert to my good OS easily.
Since I added usb 3.1 ports & got a 1TB external HD I can restore in about 5 minutes. :)
1GB/second read speed.
585MB/second write speed.

It wouldn't work without my buying a new license.
I uninstalled it. :)

Hi, are you sure about that..!?
Nobody would test a beta, if one needs to buy a license. ;)

I'm sure.
I tried my Cleanup activation numbers & it said invalid.
I don't have a license.
The only options left were to buy a license or Exit, which closed the program.

I already read it.
The person said they have experienced the same issue & are working on fixing it.
He said he would be in touch with me when it gets fixed.
Of course, I was told the same thing about the version I already have & they never did contact me. :(

I have same problem.
I purchased the cleanup licence and activated on avast free antivirus but process does not start.

So I downloaded the beta version of it and tried to enter the activation code but it says its incorrect activation code.
What should I do now.

I just started a ticket here---

The page said I would be contacted soon.
You might want to ask for help there too.

EDIT--- The response I got ---

I got a reply.
They used the money I paid on Cleanup Premium to extend my Avast Premier for 8 months.
I'm happy with that.  ;D

They were a little slow responding but did respond.

Yes it takes *cough* some time for avast to respond but eventually they will.

I've said it in other threads, tools like CleanUp don't do anything you can't do already natively with the OS.
It can help doing some things faster, but that is all.

If you (or anyone else) really want to use such a tool, I recommend CCleaner (pretty good and free).

As every system/user is different, a simple batch file that removes what the user wants will work real nice.

I have same problem can't complete functions, and I can't find a way to contact support without accessing total care at $79 per call!  Really? The product doesn't work and customers can't report and obtain refunds for defective or broken products!

I know a few with the same problem.

I have got to ask though, why is an Anti-virus programme trying to do all these things?
Why do you not stick to stopping Viruses, Malware and Ransomware  a thing I would expect an Anti-virus to do?
In short protecting computers, but be the best at it instead of adding things that can be had for free elsewhere.

Be the best at what you set yourselves to do.

At the end of the day I don't mind an advert at the start of a free edition and an advert at the end when I finish.
That way it would pay for a very good free edition that stops everything an Anti-virus should stop.
All this extra things should be on another programme from Avast.

Keep it simple.

First of all real anti-virus software hasn't been developed for many years.

Secondly CleanUp is not a anti-malware tool.
It is a tool to CleanUp things on your system e.g. temporary files, obsolete registry entries etc.

There is nothing wrong for a company to produce multiple products.

I have no problem with companies developing other programs, but when they put cripple-ware (not fully functioning unless you pay) in the product when it really has no security function anyway.

Exactly my point.
Why try to do more than stop a Virus (not that there are a lot around these days), stop Malware and try to stop Ransomware.
All the rest are just pointless and quite often are poorly designed without proper tick boxes to select what to get rid of.
Outdated Software; okay, flag it up, but open the programme to get the update, often doing it through software does not work anyway.

A good Firewall that is easy to use and password protected to go with Anti-virus, Anti-malware Malware, and a good Anit-Cyber attacker is of much more value that a load of gimmicks.
Especially when you only make this available on paid for versions.
Stick to what you are best at and try to be the best at it.

I think Avast was at its best when I could click on it and if it hadn't updated it would go and do it.
It has lost its way a bit I think.

To many cooks spoil the broth, to many add-ons spoil the software.

Stop complaining and start learning that avast is offering multiple tools and that (although some overlap) they all have their own task.
It is up to the user if he wants to use one or more of them (either free or paid)
If the user wants to use a tool for something, I would say first look if you already can't do it with what you already have.
Fact is that non of those tools are doing anything that the users can't already do himself with the options Windows, Linux, FreeBSD etc already are offering.

People should not use a tool to e.g. the browser data (cache).
Browsers have that option already build in.
People seem to have forgotten about or not even heard about F1.
